When I came to, I was sitting a plastic covered chair in a very dark room. There was a shift in movement across from me and my body tensed up while my eyes adjusted.
He was nothing but a shadow in the darkness, but I knew he was there, ensconced in his own armchair. He gave a deep chuckle, and then moved again, sending a rush of icy wind towards me.
Sitting on an ottoman in front of me, his face was clearer now, even in the darkness. Familiar features stood out, but mostly his electric blue eyes. They were the same ones that had enchanted me during our last meeting. His hand shot out and gently caressed my face, sending a shiver up my spine.
"Oh, Katherine, how nice it is to see you again." His voice was low and seductive, purposely emphasizing my name. "You didn't actually think that you could get away, did you? Of course, you had to know that we would find you sooner or later." His fingers stopped at my chin, holding it firmly between thumb and forefinger. "Say something." He ordered, threatening to move his hand down to my throat.
"I wasn't expecting to see you again so soon, Wesley." I choked out, and he smiled. His hand moved down to my collarbone and rested on it. "Where's Mitchell?" My voice cracked.
"He's fine." He sighed. "Can't you just focus on us this time around? Last time, it was your brother. This time, it's your friend." It was true that his soothing voice sent shivers down my spine, but I couldn't help but to hate him. Maybe it was the whole thing between good and evil that put me off. I froze at the mention of 'us' and he laughed. "Don't you ever get tired of rebelling?" He asked me, tilting his head. "Why don't you just give in?"
"Not to you." I spat.
He stared into my eyes for a moment while my head became heavy and fell backwards. I knew what was coming next, so I wasn't shocked when I felt the pain in my neck.
The bites didn't do much more than give me a headache and leave me weakened, but I actually wasn't worried about him biting me at all. It's when he tries to coax me into drinking his blood that I have to worry.
His lips were cool as they pressed against my skin and I could feel him drawing blood. The warm droplets of crimson that slid down around his mouth were proof enough.
Welsey left just enough blood to keep me conscious, as he had always done, but I was weakened to the point of immobility.
He leaned back and I watched as he licked his lips, shivering slightly. As he flashed a smile at me, my stomach lurched at the sight of his reddened fangs. "Welcome back Katherine." He purred and my bound hands shook where they sat in my lap.
As if on que, the door behind me creaked open. The light from the hallway illuminated Wesley's face as he stared. Someone stepped in my line of sight, and I looked up to see Malik. Next to him, James was wearing a dopey grin.
Figures that the only two people that I met yesterday after landing would be in on this. Malik leaned over and picked me up out of the chair, lifting me over his shoulder. He carried my limp form easily as we left the room.
I caught a parting wink from Wesley and my breath caught.
The trip down the hall was uneventful, and we soon reached the room. Malik set me gently on the bed and I rolled over, using the last of my strength. My hands were still tied together, but it was nothing to fret over. Sooner or later somebody would come in and remove the bindings.
After a few long minutes of silence had passed, my own door opened again. The sudden temperature shift in the room told me it was vampire. I waited for some sort of noise.
"Hey Kat." My brother's voice filled my ears. He sounded somewhat amused. "It's been a while." He kept the position at the foot of my bed.
"Two years." I spoke quietly. I had seen him briefly last time, but we had not communicated much.
"It's nice to see you again." He stated. Much to my dismay, he walked over to meet my face, crouching down. His brown eyes were still the same, but he was in a different body. The Darrel I had known before, my older brother, was gone, and in his place was a soulless monster.
"I can't say the same about you." The last time I had seen him, he was trying to kill me. I closed my eyes, and he got the message. I felt the rope on my wrists go slack and the room returned to its normal temperature.
I was too tired to open my eyes again, so I let myself fall into a restless sleep, allowing my body time to recuperate.
Nobody else came to check on me through the night.
