It had all started when Caitlin woke up after a dreamless sleep.

And yet again, she found that her world had flipped on its axis.

The walls, floor, everything in her bedroom-was covered in ice and frost. Shakily, Caitlin stood and walked over to the mirror in her bathroom, praying to whatever God or deity might be listening.

What she saw in the mirror scared her to no end.

She had streaks of white running through her normally dark brown hair. The worst part, though, was the eyes, just like her doppelgängerʼs. Silver, cold, unfeeling.

With a choked noise escaping her throat, Caitlin backed away from the mirror, only to hit the wall and feel cold seep out of every bone in her body.

She whirled around to see, to her horror, frost spreading over the wall like a dangerous plague. Caitlin shut her eyes tight and cursed her luck. Why her? Why did she have to be a meta? And why these powers?

She slowly opened her eyes, every muscle in her tense. The ice remained. Caitlin inched her way over to the ice in the manner of a someone approaching a rabid dog.

Trembling, Caitlin reached out a hand to touch the ice, desperately praying for it to disappear. To her great surprise, the ice curled around her hand and then faded away. Caitlin then slowly walked back into her bedroom, facing the ice coating every single thing in the room.

Unsure, Caitlin stood for a few seconds, staring at the glittering frost. Some instinct rose up in her, and she raised a hand and moved it in a swift hand motion going side to side. The ice responded, but not the way she wanted it to.

The ice rose up to meet her command. She lifted her hand down, but it followed the path.

Caitlin unconsciously let a small frown appear on her face. She moved her hand to the side, but the ice seemed content just to follow her handʼs motion instead of disappearing. Caitlin suddenly felt unreasonably angry, and curled her hand into a tight fist in frustration.

The shapeless mass of ice exploded in response, and sent shards of ice flying everywhere, one flying so close to Caitlinʼs head she could hear it as it went by.

With a heavy feeling of dread in her heart, Caitlin stared at her her hands in shock. She knew in that brief moment that if she didnʼt learn to control her power, she could end up hurting or even killing someone.

She also decided, in that moment, that she would never tell anyone.

She had seen out of the corner of her peripheral how Cisco had looked at her after he had gone to
Earth-Two.

Distrustful, wary. Worst of all was the fear in his eyes.

She didnʼt want to end up like the doppelgänger she had met while being held by Zoom. The hard, unreachable person that Killer Frost had been.

So Caitlin had kept it to herself. She called in for a 'family emergencyʼ and left her apartment building.

She found a temporary apartment for three days and spent all of her time locked inside the rental room, practicing her power over and over and over. Eventually she learned how to best use her abilities and just focused on not using them unintentionally so she couldnʼt get caught.

She was not able to turn her eyes back to brown after they turned the eerie silvery color, and itʼs not like she could hide her eyes. Eventually, she got it to where if she wasnʼt using her powers, her eyes stayed brown. When she was using them, then they changed. Caitlin figured that didnʼt matter, because she was never going to use her powers again if she could help it.

The hardest thing to master was the urge.

To change.

To become her.

But, for now at least, Caitlin learned to suppress her.

After her three days were up, Caitlin returned to the team. They didnʼt ask her where she had been, which Caitlin was grateful for, mostly because she was already so tired from learning to contain her powers.

She was grateful for the time away, however, because now they would never need to know she was a meta.

Unfortunately for her, they would find out.

And soon.
