We pull up to the corner shop and get out. We find an empty table and sit down at it.
"oh!" Zoey says getting excited.
"close your eyes!" she smiles as the bell to the door rings. I cover my eyes with my hands and she helps me get up from my seat.
"ready?!" she asks excited.
"yep." I say smile.
"ok..." she says as I feel another presence in front of me.
"1...2...3!!! Open!" she says jumping.
I take my hands away as does the person in front of me.
"Lola?!" A familiar voice says. As it all took a moment to process in my mind what was going on.

"Jack." I say kind of confused, not sure on what to do. I mean last time we talked we were practically screaming at each other.
"it's daddy!" Zoey says with a smiling looking at both of us.
"I see that" I laugh at her.
"Let's go do something now that we are all together!" she says with a huge smile.
"Zoey i don't-" I started.
"Lola. Let's go do something!" Jack says with a smile.
"or we can stay here mommy..." Zoey says putting her feet under her in her chair.
"...I don't mind, but I have to use the restroom I'll be right back" I lie.
I walked to the restroom and locked myself in a stall pulling out my phone. Jack and I have to talk, it's too awkward and I can't do it. I immediately texted Alanis.
To Alanis- hey, are you busy?
after about one minute she had already replied back.
From Alanis- no, why? what's up?
To Alanis- are u able to babysit Zoey for a bit
From Alanis- yeah, ofc when?
To Alanis- idk but i'll let you know.
From Alanis- alright.
I shoved my phone back into my pocket. Then walked back out to where they were.
"here Zoey look at something" I say handing her my phone.
"ok" she smiles and takes my phone.
I lightly grab jacks arm pulling him to the side. Not far from Zoey, only a few steps. Plus i can still keep an eye on her. There wasn't really anyone there anyway.
"We at least need to talk this out. It's to awkward and I can't just carry on, as if we are on good terms because last time we talked we were screaming at each other, we can't just carry on like that" I say looking at the ground.
"Lola, i'm sorry" he says putting his finger under my chin and lifts my head up.
"We just need to talk it out" I say glancing at Zoey as she plays on my phone.
"when?"
"I asked Alanis if she would babysit her" I say not making eye contact. It was just hard.
"...alright" he says as we walk back to Zoey.
"Zoey" I say as she looks up with a smile. God she's precious.
"yeah?" she says turning off the phone passing it to me.
