"I said it's on autopilot!" Lance repeats. "It says there's an alien ship approaching Earth. I think we're supposed to stop it."
"What did it say exactly?" Pidge snaps.
"Well, it's not like it's saying words. It's more like feeding ideas into my brain, kind of," the brown-haired boy explains.
"If this thing is the weapon they're coming for, why don't we just, I don't know, give it to them? Maybe they'll leave us alone," Hunk offers, then turns to the console. "Sorry, lion. Nothing personal."
"You don't understand," Shiro starts, completely serious. "These monsters spread like a plague throughout the galaxy, destroying everything in their path. There's no bargaining with them. They won't stop until everything is dead." We all squint at Hunk, waiting for him to retract his idea.
"Oh. Never mind then." The blue lion continues flying until it breaks Earth's atmosphere. We sit for a little while, drifting through space with our momentum.
"Wow," I mutter, looking out of the front window. "Our first time in space. It's gorgeous."
"We've been in the simulators before, Jaelyn," Pidge points out.
"Yeah, it's not like you haven't seen space before," Lance agrees.
"It's just different actually being in space," I insist, a soft smile crossing my lips. "It's hard to describe. It's like I can feel everything breathing."
I think I understand why Mom loved it so much. I feel eyes on me, and turn to see everyone staring at me like I'm crazy.
"What? We all thought Keith was crazy until we actually found the lion," I grumble, turning back to the screen. A huge ship pops into view, and we all gasp.
"Holy crow, is that really an alien ship?" Hunk exclaims as the Blue Lion moves out of the ship's path.
"They found me," Shiro mutters, his eyes trained on the ship. I could see a hint of fear in his eyes. Before I could say anything to him, the enemy ship begins firing at us.
"We've got to get it out of here!" Pidge cries.
"Hang on!" Lance shouts, pulling up on the controls. We dodge each laser beam, only receiving a few minor bruises from the abrupt movement. "Alright, okay. I think I know what to do."
"Be careful, man!" Pidge shouts. "This isn't a simulator!"
"Well, that's good," he responds. "I always wreck the simulator."
I groan as I crouch on the floor, my forehead pressed against the back of the chair. "Why couldn't it have been Shiro?" I mutter to myself. "Why not Shiro? Why Lance?" I feel a gentle tug in my heart, and my eyes snap open.
"All will come to be known." Where the heck did that come from? I stand up quickly, focusing back in on our life-or-death situation.
Lance shifts the controls sharply. The Blue Lion shoots an energy beam from its mouth, slicing into the alien ship.
"Let's try this," Lance says, pulling the controls back. The lion dodges the beams again - though much smoother than last time - before scraping its claws into the ship.
"Nice job, Lance," Shiro compliments.
"Now, that was awesome," I praise, ruffling his hair.
"I think it's time to get these guys away from our planet," Lance announces, turning and flying the lion away from Earth.
"Oh, no!" Hunk cries.
"They're gaining on us," Pidge adds.
"It's weird," Lance says. "They're not trying to shoot us. They're just chasing us."
