The king stood from his throne and extended his arm so he could welcome all in the room.
"Let the feast begin." he said with a huge smile spread across his face. From out of no where came servants who welcomed the guests and lead them to a dining room as large as the throne room. A servant came to me and asked me if I would like to wash up before I went to the table. I nodded and followed her down a hall way with my Grelaten trailing behind. Anyone we passed quickly moved out of the way and stared. I was releaved when we finally reach the doors of the room i'd be staying in where no eyes were staring. It had a huge bed that had more pillow then could be counted on two hands and a view of a lake that shone with the stars. I walked in and quickly set my small satchel on a table.
"There is a dress on the bed that the queen has given to you to wear tonight." the servant said, trying to look under my hood and avoiding the beasts at all cost.
"Thank you, that will be all"
"You do not want help getting into the dress, my lady?"
"No, I am fine." I wanted to be left alone for a few minutes before facing the large crowd without my hood.
"Of course, my lady. Just call for me and shall be here if you need assistance." I thanked her again and she left but not before trying again to get a quick glance at my face. I fell onto the bed so I could finally let my exhausted legs have a break. I could not stand all of the plush from the pillows so I got up and sat in front of a dresser with a large round mirror. My Grelaten jumped in the bed and promptly fell asleep. I sighed, knowing there were many people down stairs waiting on me and would soon get restless.
Walking to the bed, I looked at the dress layed out for me. It was a light blue with lace across the boudice. It was beautiful but way more extravagent then what I am use to but I must wear it or the queen would be offended and think I did not like her gift. I quickly put on the dress and called in the servant to put my hair in a loose fashion that was appropriate for the night. She seemed to understand that I was not the kind of person that was use to all of this and put my hair in a simple twist. A couple pieces fell loose in the front and swirled around my face.
The servant stared. This is why I kept my hood on when ever I have a chance and am in company of others. My hair was a deep brown that was beautiful but my eyes were what always caught people. They were an intense light blue with gold in the center. This is the one thing that changed in my appearance when my ability was given to me. There were stories about what my eyes could do to people and how much knowledge they hold.
"Your beautiful, the dress is perfect." the maid says. I give her a small but sad smile before getting up and putting on the shoes that would hurt my feet the rest of the night. Their were also jewels laid out for me but I couldn't bring my self to wear them. They seemed so pure in a world so tainted. They made me think of sparkling blue eyes that once use to look at me with happiness and love but never would again. That was during a time when my life wasn't so complicated and my eyes were only a common dull brown. It seemed like a completely different life but one that often haunted me in my dreams.
When I was ready, I was taken through a different rought of the kingdom that lead me to the main entrance of the dining hall. When I walked in, all speaking stopped. I look at no one but walked to the only seat left, on the left side of the king. Across from me was the queen and on the other end of the table was the prince. He stared at me but not like the others. I others stared with wonder in their eyes but he only looked at me with interest. It gave me a bit of comfort that not all thought of my like some rare species.
The king stood up with his glass in his hand and all eyes relectantly turned to him. "I welcome everyone here to this feast to celebrate a night where we may forget our worries and just rejoice that we are here, together. Let us enjoy a wonderful meal and speak only of the good." The king raised his glass and all followed his lead. Some of the men downed there glass but I and many of the women just took a small sip and put it down.
