I woke to the sound of a knock on my door.
"Come in," I said politely sitting up.
"Good Morning, my Lady. I trust you slept well?" the maid said walking in with a tray of tea.
"I did, thank you." She set the tray down at the end of the bed.
"Breakfast will be in an hour, then the king would like to see you in his private office for a meeting." She turned to leave but looked hesitant.
"Is their something else?" She turned to me with fear in her eyes.
"Are you going to help us?"
"I would not be here if I weren't," I barley finished before she said, "You will help us no matter what, even if it might....cost?" Now I was very confused. What could be so troubling to them that even the maids were involved?
"I shall do what ever I can. I promise."
I said this, not realizing that it had just bound me to a fate I have been avoiding for most of my life.

*Prince Lucas's POV*
Oh how I hate mornings. The feeling of knowing you must get up but not wanting to move is awful. I am now walking down the hall towards my fathers room, trying to put one foot in front of the other without falling. I had gotten no sleep last night, thanks to my never ending thoughts. How is it that one girl could haunt me so and of course out of all the girls, it had to be the one I could not become attracted to. When she looked into my eyes last night, I swear she could see my soul.
I got to the doors of my fathers office and knocked with annoyance.
"Come in"
"Well good morning father, how are you so very early this morning?" I am not a morning person if you had not gathered.
"I am actually quite wonderful. Isn't the early morning air refreshing?" I just glared at him and sat in the large chair in front of his desk. Even behind the laughter that was in my fathers eyes, I could see the sleep he also missed and a lot of stress.
"You wished to speak to me?" I said more seriously, lounging in my chair.
"Yes, I did. I'm sure you are wondering why the Veneda is here?"
"It has crossed my mind."
"Son, I must tell you something that I have stupidly been keeping from you," my father said staring me straight in the eye. "Recently many of the farther cities have been getting attacks. I have been getting reports from the little survivors that they came out of know where and start slaughtering all in their path. Women and children have been dying. I sent solderers to guard the villages but it made no difference. I have sent for the villages to be evacuated and all should come here to live in the castle walls city."
"Why was I not told?" I practically yelled.
"Not many knew of it for we did not wanted to scare all of the people. We thought it was merely bandits at first that needed to be taken care of but one of the survivors, a solder, confirmed they were not bandits but creatures that looked to be of the goblin race but not of one we have encountered."
"The people need to be warned! They need to be scared and prepared of what is coming!"
"I know. This is why I am having a meeting with all of my generals and the Veneda. We shall need her for she is the only one who will know what these are and how to stop them. I will need you to help the villages and to make sure all soldiers are prepared. We might be at war."
"I shall do all that I can."
"Good all shall gather here after breakfast. I need you to act like nothing is going on. I don't want anything getting out until we have decided what we are going to do and can ease their minds." I nodded and got up. I turned to go but stop.
"What if the Veneda can not help us?" My father looked up at me and I saw the venerability in his eyes which made me very afraid. My father was always strong and focused.
"Then we must pray and save as many as we can."

*Veneda's POV"
The breakfast room was a large buffet of food. The amount of food here could feed an army but now that I think about it, the number of soldiers that stop to eat here probably add up to an army. I probably would have eaten a good amount after not eating much at the ball but I was far to nervous. I had promised myself to help in whatever way I can but now I have a feeling of dread that will not leave my stomach.
I grabbed a plate and put some of all, out of respect but it was all sand in my stomach; without taste. Why does this scare me so? I have dealt with all types of creatures and disasters but none gave me this much dread.
"Are you trying to eat your food with your eyes?" I jumped at the princes voice and realized I had been glaring at my plate.
"If it helps then yes."
"Is everything alright?" I raise an eyebrow. "Never mind don't answer that; stupid question." A small smile grows on my face. "Can I help in anyway?" I close my eyes.
"Make me laugh."
"Well that's easy enough. Just look around at what all is being worn and you won't be able to stop laughing," he said with a grin. I look around at all the ladies whom are trying to get attention from the gentlemen. "Just look at Lady Jerimel over there; she has a wig on that keeps falling off her head." I watch the woman he pointed to as she pushes her hair filled with pins and pearls back up on her head and try hard not to laugh. My attempt fails and I end up laughing in my hands as the prince grins down at me.
"Thank you for that," I say looking over my shoulder once again at Lady Jerimel. The king came in at that moment announcing the meeting was starting and instantly a frown was back on my face. Seeing that, the prince offered to walk me to my fathers study, squeezing my arm for comfort.
We got to the door which was closed and stopped. The prince looked down at me with a smile and I smiled back. As he opened the door I whispered under my breath,
"Let it begin."
