3. In A Perfect World...

I rummaged through my wardrobe, frustratedly looking for an outfit. The week had taken its toll on me and I needed to drink something strong to get my mind off of it, so of course I said yes to the bar event. Just as I pulled out a white, sleeveless boho dress, I heard footsteps approaching me. I turned around to see my mom at the door.

"Where are you headed?"

"Just gonna hang out at the coffee shop. Boston's shift is till eight today and we might go to her place afterwards. Sound okay?"

She hesitated before sighing. "Yeah, yeah. Tell Boss I said hi to her parents." I nodded and she kissed my hair, bidding goodbye.

I quickly ran to the bathroom and damped my hair, running a brush through the tangled strands. I washed my face and put on some balm, rubbing some mascara on my eyes at the same time. I checked the time on my phone. Four fifty two. Eight minutes. That darn woman is always on time.

I ran out and threw on my dress, spraying some perfume on it. Once I was done, I ran down to the living room and grabbed the spare house keys, slipping into my brown sandals. My head snapped up when I heard Boston's aggressive honks, cuing my exit. I opened the door and walked outside, flipping her off with an angry face. She mockingly gave me a pouting face.

"You know, being late once in a blue moon doesn't kill you," I said as I closed the door, already out of breath from rushing about.

"In a perfect world," she responded and I rolled my eyes. "But this is not a perfect world." I just scoffed and went rummaging through her purse.

"Where are the faux IDs?"

"Faux?"

"Boss."

"Sorry! It gets me," she giggled. "Front zipper." I quickly slid the zipper right and pulled the cards out, admiring them from a good distance.

"Where on earth did he get this mugshot photo of me?"

"Yearbook. You need to learn to smile," she pointed.

"You need to learn I have a problem with authority and anything related to the American public school system."

"Right, my bad," she said, sucking her breath in slowly.

After another five minutes, we arrived at the bar. It was located right next to a Starbucks, only a three minute walk to the beach. Inside was all wood. Wooden bar stools, wooden tables, wooden boards announcing the drinks, wooden barrels and a wooden stage. Since it was becoming dark, they turned on all the blue and pink lights, giving the place a more cozy feeling.

Boston dragged my hand through the crowd and got us to the bar, ordering two light beers. The bartender, a lady well in her thirties, asked for our IDs and we both proudly swiped them out, handing them over. She looked at them and back to us, and back to the cards again. Giving us a warm smile after convincing herself that we were fine, she handed us two brown bottles. We gladly accepted them and walked off.

"Have you ever been here before?" Boston asked as we  sat down at the bar stools. I shook my head, because even though I walked past the bar at least five times a week, I never really had anyone to go in with.

Not forgetting to mention that I was unaware of my best friend's rebellious behaviors. And spontaneous bar nights.

"Well, you're gonna love it. Sometimes I feel like it's you playing up there," she added, pointing to the stage where a young girl and her band were performing. "Can I have the honor?"

We linked arms and walked to the floor, drinks in hand. She took a big swig and I grimaced at her grimacing face.

"Don't drink too much. You're my ride home," I yelled over the thumping jazz music.

"When was the last time I let you down, Morris?" she yelled back and I shook my head in defeat. "That's what I thought."

"Maybe you'll find a guy tonight," I pointed and she looked excited for a second.

"Screw me. Maybe you'll find a guy tonight, you shrew."

"I'm well off, thank you."

"Says every young woman until the right man comes along."

"I'm not every young woman. I'm Jayden Carter Morris."

"Ah, I see you can use your full name but I can't?"

"That's because I have full custody over it, Myers, you genius."

"The genius you're referring to is getting way more action than you, so I'll take that as a compliment."

"Oh, yeah? Who's the latest victim?"

She slapped my arm and I smirked. "Johnny Blacks. Remember junior year? The kid who wore the Napoleon Dynamite shirt all the time?"

My jaw dropped. "The kid who thought he was Pauly Shore? With the accent and slang?"

"Yep. Lovely man he turned out to be."

"He probably thinks he's DiCaprio now, doesn't he?"

"Better." I just nodded.

Within the next ten minutes, I found myself swaying happily to the person covering Ingrid Michaelson's In The Sea. Another fifteen minutes passed and we were still dancing, until I turned around and opened my eyes for the first time in a while.

A pair of electric green eyes were staring into mine in the dark.

Hey kids.

IM SO STOKED. Short update because next chapter is probably gonna be Harry's point of view. I was planning on keeping this book in her POV the whole time but knowing myself I can't stick to my own word. Anyways. Hope you liked this lil one.

Love.
