Kara.

The lights shine brightly through my window. Zooming pods fly bye making their usual noises. I love watching them. The way they glide through the air, their wings lightly touching the fresh morning breeze. I get up just before the sun comes up every morning to see the beautiful buildings be framed in the dancing colours of red, yellow orange and the ocasional blue streak of sun rise. There's suddenly a nock at my door.

"Come in." I shout, not wanting to get out from under the covers.

"Happy birthday my darling girl!" My mother and father walk in with an abundance of small presents. I had completely forgotten it was my birthday. To be honest I don't regret forgetting it because now I am at the age where my parents get to choose who I marry. No doubt it will be the son of a wealthy family or someone from the Kryptonian council.

"Thank you mother. Father." I reach up to hug them both as they get to my bed side. My mother takes the smallest gift first and hands it to me delicately.

"This is from me and your father." I slowly open the paper to reveal a necklace with a blue stone with hints of black in the middle.

"Mother this is beautiful. But it is so similar to yours. And fathers." I try to look for hers around her neck to compare them but I find no trace of it.

"That's because it is both of ours Kara. We had them merged together so you would always have a part of us. We wanted you to have it. No matter where you are or what you do we will always be with you." I fight back happy tears as I embrace them again. I turn and pull my hair to the side for my mother to do it up at the back of my neck for me.

"We have a surprise for you later. For now we will leave you to get ready for today." Father says to save me from crying in front of them. He knows I like to be strong. Mother kisses my head before they both leave.

I put on my best blue dress with the house of Els symbol embroidered on the chest in gold. I hear a lot of rushing around as I approach my door. All of a sudden there is a massive flock of our maids and servers rushing past me. I walk to my fathers office where he is busy filing papers.

"Father? What is all the rushing around for." I ask in the calmest voice I can manage.

"We are preparing." He answers simply.

"For what?" He stops rustling his papers and turns to me.

"Kara. You are at the age now where you are ready to take my place on the council. As I am the head of the committee I will need you to know what I know and who I know." He pauses. "That is why I have invited the royal family of Daxam to join us for your celebration dinner."

I don't know what to say. I freeze in the door way not sure what to make of this news. From what I've heard the royal family of Daxam are horrible rulers who treat their people like dirt. They like to keep them dazed so they do not realise how oppressed they are.

And the prince. He's the worst of the worst. The frat boy of the universe. Apparently he's been with so may girls he can't even remember half of them. He's the complete opposite to me. I've never been with anyone.

"Father why would you do this? You know how much I hate them." I say with bitterness edging my words.

"All of Krypton does. Me especially. But in order to forfill your duties you must know all of your allies and enemies. I just hope you can form a better relationship than any of your ancestors could." He can tell I don't know what to say.

"Even the prince is coming. I believe he is your age. You may get on well." I scoff at his words. I will never get on with him, he's so irrelevant I don't even remember his name.
