I opened up my eyes, instantly aware that an alarm hadn't woken me up. The thought brought a smile to my face.
Slowly, my eyes focused to bring the blurs into objects. I saw Andrew sitting against the wall with his eyes trained on me. My eyebrows furrowed, not quite liking it.
"Dude, don't stare," I grumbled as I lifted my head off of the pillow.
"I'm sorry," he formally apologized.
I looked over at him for a few seconds before sitting up completely. With a sigh, I stood up from my bed and went over to the closet to pick out fresh clothes. Not wanting to change in front of Andrew, despite him being a robot, I went into the bathroom connected to my bedroom. Once I was dressed, I came back out to find him in the same spot. Did he not do anything unless I commanded him to?
"So," I started, "What's your program now?"
Andrew looked up to me and pulled out the headphones, apparently fully charged. "I've come with the default Human 2 program. It's an upgrade from the first one with that I can understand humor more and respond quicker. I believe I have the intelligence of an eighth grader. I'm a quick learner though."
I nodded at the new information and pursed my lips. What would I use him for? He wasn't going anywhere so I might as well figure out what it was that I wanted him to do. "Can you do math?" I questioned curiously. It wouldn't hurt starting with him helping me with school work. I guarantee my mother would agree with me.
"Somewhat. I'm programmed past Algebra. I know the basics of Geometry. Trigonometry is an easier one for me since it's basically triangles," he answered, his eyes blinking as he spoke. His chest rose like he was breathing, which felt weird to me. He was acting way too real. If he didn't have the grey eyes and the bar code, I would have swore he was a human.
"I'm definitely making you watch hours of khan academy math videos," I mumbled more to myself, snorting quietly.
I went to my desk and grabbed my laptop before sitting on the edge of the bed. "You can sit by me," I offered. I kept my eyes on the screen as I clicked away at the keyboard, only looking down every once in a while. I heard him stand up before the bed dipped under his weight. "Can you do this?" I asked, a simple multiplication problem on the screen.
"Yes. And it's 1,472," he answered me without skipping a heartbeat. I frowned at how quickly he answered and grabbed my phone from behind my pillow, typing in the problem to see if he was correct. When the same number popped up, my frown deepened.
"That's weird," I mumbled under my breath.
"I'm sorry. Do you not like my answering that quickly? I can take a few moments before I answer you if you'd like."
I looked over at him before shaking my head.
"No, no," I sighed. "I just wish I could do that, that's all."
After teaching him a few math functions, I headed downstairs with him to get some food. As I bit into an apple, I turned around to face him. "Can you eat food?" I questioned.
His eyes lowered to the apple before nodding. "Yes, but it's not pleasant how we have to remove it. Puking usually takes place and its advised against," he fulfilled my question.
Mentally, I reminded myself not to let myself or anyone give him food. Even if he didn't feel anything, it wouldn't be enjoyable to myself. I finished off the apple and ended my meal with a bottle of water since it was only breakfast.
"You know, you're supposed to have around 400 calories for breakfast. That was about 100 calories based on the size," Andrew spoke up for the first time without being addressed.
I shrugged before speaking, "Sensitive stomach in the morning. More than just a snack makes me feel sick throughout the whole day." He seemed to nod and take in the information for future.
Since I had no other plans for the day, I figured getting to know Andrew would do.
We headed into the living room. I sat down on the couch and slid my legs under my left side, my right leaning against a pillow. He watched me sit down before he sat down on the edge like he had on my bed.
"Is that how you're supposed to sit on a couch?" He asked.
"No," I laughed softly. "People sit down in many different ways. I usually sit like this though. The way you're sitting is fine."
He nodded before leaning his back against the couch. I turned on the tv and settled on a movie I hadn't seen before, knowing I wasn't going to pay much attention to it anyways.
Turning to him, I parted my lips. "Can you give me a basics on sort of everything?"
He turned his head towards my before explaining, "I was made four months ago. I'm based off of the age 19 and to look fairly fit. I don't have a favorite color or anything like that. I'm best at geography since it never changes and is pretty simple, but math challenges me so it intrigues me in a sense. I know basic life saving actions like CPR. I can run for two miles without losing speed. There's much more but you'd probably rather ask me than me ramble on. There's also programs for me on the AIFP website. They cost money. Though, you can always put engage me in it and I'll learn at a rate 1.5% faster than the normal person."
I made a "hm" sounded and wrapped an arm around the pillow, processing all that he'd said to me. Overall, it didn't seem like a bad deal to have a robot in my life. I was quickly reminded of all the doubts I had about them. "What about the robots that have attacked their owners?" I asked.
Andrew's head tilted as his eyebrows furrowed. "I'm not sure what you mean by that," he admitted. "It's in our system that we can't harm any living beings. If you're in danger from someone attacking, I can't harm them in that situation either. I'd protect you, but no harm would come from me."
With a frown, I dropped the subject since Andrew obviously didn't have a clue about the so-called attacks on the internet. Maybe they were just stories.
