Achilles- His weakness was also his greatest strength

A whisper, a shadow, glimpses of other worldly. That was the first sign of a great change. The first hero appeared so suddenly no one really had anything to say, other than to compare these real life heroes to comic book fictional characters. Then as soon as she rose claiming to be a hero for the people, she was defeated. It didn't take long for others to pop up. All claiming there spots as "Heroes". Things began to change soon after. Schools were built and having powers was now a norm. Growing up to see everyone have unique powers I grew up assuming that it was natural.

After all my mom was the first hero, and even though she didn't save anyone before she was defeated. I new how brave she was to stand up. She started the first wave of heroes and heroines, and no one can take that from her. Hi my names May. Unfortunately for me I'm not one of those people who came to power, and I don't hold any grudges to my father since usually its the parents genes who don't have powers that decide whether you'll inherit any powers. Thanks dad, did i mention i hold no grudges?

~(1 day before school)~

I watched my father clean the dishes angry at how relaxed he looked. He promised me he would buy me an Xbox since I was 13! The times ticking old man, I've never heard of a promise deadline. But a 3 year wait has gotta be pushing it? As if sensing my thoughts he looked up drying his hands on a towel. "Even if I do buy you this expensive and might I say useless electronic, when will you be able to use it?"

"come on son, we both know you never play games, your a strong energetic boy, this request would make sense if it was your sister whose always locked up in her room. "Don't worry about what we'll buy you. "Oh and hey your aunt has a gift for you, who knows it might be a game." My dad always knew how to counter precisely yet be so gentle. probably why he was a successful Judge.

I always feel silly after talking to him. Now that I think about it, the only reason why I wanted a game is probably because Rick made fun of me in the middle of class. So what if i don't play games, I'm to busy trying to bring out my powers. Of course Rick doesn't have to worry since his power is tough skin, lucky ding dong. My only hope is this story I found about a guy who was tested and didn't have any powers. But with hard work and keeping his body in health he gained the ability to defeat even the strongest heroes.

Humans aren't powerless so it makes sense to train as hard as I can to make up for the gap between me and my peers. Even if there is a limit to how far I can shrink the gap it would be foolish to wait for powers that may never come. "pshh whatever, I'm pretty sure Aunty assumes I'm a girl. Remember last time she bought me a skirt and then tried to make me believe it was a kilt. last I remembered our family is white not Irish white". Even dad couldn't hide his smile fast enough for me to see he enjoyed her gift a little too well.

"Dad!" He patted me on the back "Don't be so dramatic come on lad.....cough". I can't believe this? Really? did he just call me lad?? I left the kitchen with my dad. More pissed off about the fact that I had to wear that dang kilt. I always knew that would come back to haunt me. I'm not saying it wasn't uncomfortable...I mean there was a breeze and I'd be lying if I said it didn't feel good. But we have to remember MY CLASSMATES WERE ALL THERE T-T. Every time I walk down the hall I hear someone saying "AYE ladeeee ayeeee".

I mean it sounds more pirate then Irish but it's the intention that pisses me off the most :/without thinking I blurted out. "Just wait till i get my powers, then no one can laugh at me". My dad stayed quite. He never liked my enthusiasm to awaken my powers. We had this talk before and I didn't want to go back to it. I cursed myself for forgetting. "Dad....mom was a hero too, having powers is not a bad thing". He gave me a warm smile and patted my head.

"I know son, You'll make a great hero. with my looks and your mom's heart there's no one who can stop you". "do me a favor and wake up your sister, she has to take her medicine its almost 3:00." I nodded sprinting up the stairs. Luck would have it that my older sister would have the coolest power in the world, so unique that only 3 people are known to have it. And you have to have a licence to keep it.

She has the power to read minds at will. usually people like that have a secondary ability to control objects but she hasn't shown any signs of developing it. I know right, To OP. I never knocked before so I didn't start now. "Hey dad said it's time, hurry up". she didn't even glance at me as she kept stabbing her mouse pad no doubt wishing i was at the receiving end for bothering her.

"Hey birthday boy, how about you do me a favor and bring me my medicine here". I stood there shocked for a second. "Hahahaha oh man that was good one. Do you think I love you? Your only 1 hour older than me. Don't think i have to take your bullcrap. Get you lazy ass up I don't work for you." who the hell does she think she is?

She glanced up at me for a second. "one word.....Alice....don't say i didn't warn you". The blood rushed out of my face so quick I gasped for air "Cough coooough!". In a small voice i barely recognized I replied. "Dad said you can't use your powers on me....what kind of sister are you." ohhh how I wish i could wipe that smug smile from her condescending face. She winked at me clearly amused. "Oh sorry I didn't know, does dad know you like like like Alice? oh wait dear brother, did you think i loved you?" grinding my teeth I could see how I bought this on myself. "Asshole."I whispered. she turned around a smirk on her face."oh sorry what was that??"

Taking a deep breath I put up a Innocent smile. my face said I was okay but I bet my eyes told her this wasn't over. "Oh nothing, I said ASSSSSSSK and I shall". She nodded approvingly, waving me away as if I'm some kind of peasant. One day i swear one day....
