It was pretty dark out. The moon was bright so it I had some light but it was impossible to feel same out here. I walked down the block. It was lined with a few empty shops and one or two abandoned cars. Must have been downtown here. There was a faint buzzing sound, like there were a million little insects watching over me. Lending me their strength and guiding me through the night. Their slimy limbs holding me and.... Disgusting right? I know. My imagination is quite weird.
I shook my head and kept walking. The dark didn’t seem to be ending soon. I started to get even more worried. What if something did happen to him? Then I’m screwed. But its not like I was going to give up that easily. I held my shotty in both my hands and walked slowly around the next corner. I looked ahead and saw bright lights coming out of (believe it or not) a legitimate arcade. It looked like it belonged to the 80s or some shit like that.
The lights threw the shadows back and I was able to make out what the sign said. Apparently the arcade is called “Larry’s Gamy Station”. I shook my head. That had to be the lamest name ever.
I sighed and pulled the strap on my gun over my shoulder and jogged over to Larry’s. I opened the door and was almost blinded by all these flashing lights.
I’ve never been to an arcade before and realized how unlucky that was. It looked mad cool in here. Rows and rows of games. I never even heard of them but they looked extremely fun. I almost tried to play one but sadly, it needed a coin for that. Good thing it did. I wasn’t here to play games. I came to find Darien.
I went up each row of games and almost gave up until I reached the back of one row. Darien was bent over a pinball game, face scrunched up in determination. I walked over to him and saw he was sweating hard to. I laughed a little and shook his shoulder. He jumped and looked at me briefly before looking back down to his game. Ignoring me, huh?
“Darien!” I said, a little irritation creeping into my voice.
“What?” he snapped at me, not looking away from his game.
“You’ve been playing this game too long. Its dark out and we need to get back to the library.” I said and he scoffed. “I just got here like an hour ago. Just give me a few more minutes” he said.
“Not an hour. Its been hours dude.” I shook his arm and he flinched, pushing the buttons on the sides of the game harder. “No it hasn’t.” The ball in the game got past his defense and fell in out of range, losing that level. He growled and shook the machine a bit. I jumped back when the side came close to hitting my hip. He just restarted the game and ignored any other pleas I gave. This was getting tiring fast.
I scratched my hair and thought of a plan to get him away from the game. It was probably gonna get me killed but oh well. I walked around the machine and stood almost behind it. Then I pulled the plug, turing the game off.
Darien froze and didn’t move. He watched the ball drop into the hole then turned to me. His face told me he was going to choke the life out of me. I backed up and turned to run but he caught me. He threw me to the ground and sat on my back, straddling me. I struggled and tried to throw him off. He might not have been really heavy but he was still a boy and very solid. I stopped struggling because it got me no where and I was already breathing hard.
He leaned down and whispered in my ear, “Jamie, that was a naughty thing for you to do. Now i have to punish you.” I gulped. I could even hear the smile in his voice and imagined him looking down at me with that mischievous smile of his. I struggled to get free again but failed. Again. I sighed.
Might as well accept my fate.
