I remember a time when life was sweet. A time before the infection spread and ruined the lives of millions. It all started just 2 months ago.

The school bell rang. Classrooms emptied of kids. Many pushed and shoved since, they wanted to get home. It was Friday. I was walking to my locker, holding hands with Ash. I looked up at him and smiled. He was talking with his best friend, Max. Ash laughed at something he said and pushed his glasses back up his nose, when they slid down. I opened my locker and pushed my books in and grabbed my backpack, slamming it shut.

“You ready to go?” I asked Ash. He looked down at me and smiled. “Yeah, but I gotta stop by Ms. Giles and pick up a copy of yesterday’s homework. Can you wait by the car for me?” I sighed. “Yeah. See you in a bit”

He bent down and kissed me on the lips, slipping the car keys into my hand and forced his way through the crowded hallway. I looked over at Max and pulled his arm. “Lets go”

We headed to the main school doors, pushing people out the way. Everyone around us was laughing and playing around. Talking to each other and making plans for the weekend. I sighed when we finally reached the main doors and ran down the steps. “Hey! Wait up!” Max yelled at me. I laughed. “No. You speed up” I took off toward Ash’s car and opened the door. I slammed it shut and hit the lock all button.

A few second, Max appeared and tried to open the door. He looked at me and banged on the window. “Open the door, Jamie!” I shook my head and stuck out my tongue. He glared at me. I flipped him off and laughed even more. He rolled his eyes. “Jamie I’m not playing anymore”

I said “Who said I was playing?” with a straight face. He sighed and flipped me off, walking away. I rolled down the window a bit. “Love you too!” I shouted at him. He waved his hand and headed toward the school. I rolled the window back up and climbed into the backseat.

I pulled out my cell phone and headphones and went to my playlist. I scrolled down until I reached the song I wanted to hear. I clicked it and  popped in the headphones. Bulls in the Bronx by Pierce the Veil started to blare into my ears and I started to shake my head to the beat.

I stared out the window and watched the people go by. The school seemed to be almost empty, if you saw how many people were outside. They hung out in groups and sat by cars. I sat back checked the clock. 4:30. I sighed and waited for Ash.
