"Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the twentieth Mating Bond!"
I suck in a breath. This is it. I'm here. This happening.
I breath in through my nose but there are too many people here. I can't tell if he's here. Well duh, it couldn't be that easy. That's why there are the games.
I move to the side of the crowd to get a better view of the stage. There are a few people here so it's a little hard to see over the crows. Especially if you're only five foot three.
A man and woman stand side by side on it. Their hands intertwined, the woman speaks up.
"Hello everybody. I am Luna Hanna and this is my mate Alpha Everett. We are Alpha and Luna of the Crescent moon pack and we welcome you to the Mating Bond!"
Cheers erupt from everyone. Whistles and clapping all could be heard for a few seconds. Alpha Everett raises his hand and everyone immediate quiets down. Luna Hanna waits a moment before continuing.
"As most of you know, this is a very special Mating Bond as it is the twentieth one to date! Each year, I always get approached by couples who say that they met their mates here and I always feel so ecstatic that this lone act of having one party per year can give people years of happiness."
Another series of claps and cheers follow. I clap a long with the people who surround me. The Luna's enthusiasm is very contagious.
You could practically feel the joy and excitement from everyone. Everyone was smiling and already seem to be having a good time.
Anara was getting more excited by the second.
"I know some of you must be hungry, so as most of you probably have seen, there are tables with food on the right." She motions to her left, our right the food tables I saw moments before.
My stomach growled at her remark. I haven't eaten tonight since I was busy trying to finish all my chores earlier.
"Now we can have a normal meal and not a stupid piece of toast and or unhealthy pizza. Need more steak!"
Anara growled in my head.
"What steak? Father never gave us steak. Always bread and the leftover veggies. There was never any left over meat. Ever. Its the first thing he'd devour. Even then we'd get so little leftovers. He almost always ate everything he was given."
The only times he didn't is if he passed out earlier than normal from being drunk but that didn't happen often.
"So, grab some food and go sit and eat! And don't worry, there is more than enough for everybody! And if you're not hungry, you can just walk around or dance! Even if you don't meet your mate, you can still make new friends! "
Almost everyone was looking at the buffet tables that pack members were taking off the closed signs and rolling out carts of plates and utensils.
"Once you've all been seated, each table will be given an alphabet letter. That letter will help organize the upcoming games! There will be multiple smaller games rather then one large one with how many people are here. You want to have fun tonight! Not large amounts of confusion. After each round of games well have a small brake then rotate the groups! That way everyone will have chance to play at least one game with everyone else. It'll still be large groups so please pay attention when my pack members are calling out for different groups! But you all must be hungry from your journeys here so please, eat! and have fun!"
After the Luna said that, she proceed to depart from the stage with her mate. As I watch how the Alpha grasps her hand to help her down the steps of the stage and the way he looks at her, my heart swells with longing. From what I understand, they have been together for twenty three years and yet, he still looks at her like she is the most precious thing to him. I want that.
