Chapter 5

Later...

Riker POV

"Riker?" Tate whispered.

"Mmmm?"

"I can't sleep."

"Me either."

"Why?"

"I don't know. I'm just thinking about how we're boyfriend and girlfriend now. What about you?"

"I can't stop thinking about my ex. Not like that! I just mean that I'm really scared."

"Still?"

"Yeah."

"Tate, I told you I'd protect you from him."

"I know... But you don't know him. You don't know how scary he can be."

"Tate, I've lived with a bunch of brothers my whole life. I think I can handle a random guy."

"Riker, he's not just a random guy. Picture your worst high school bully. That's my ex times like a million."

"Tate. I promise you, I'm going to protect you. You don't have to worry, ok?"

"But I am."

I sighed, and wrapped my arm around her.

"Just try to get some sleep. You know you're safe for right now, so until we get unhandcuffed, there's nothing to worry about, ok?"

"Ok..."

"Night."

"Night, Riker..."

I could tell she was still worried. I can't blame her. But I wish she would believe me that I'd protect her. Unless maybe I really should be worried about this guy. She had a point when she said I don't know him. Maybe he's really as bad as she says he is...

Well I won't know right now. So I'm going to try to get some sleep.

The next day...

Riker POV

My wrist was really hurting today. My wrist was rubbed raw by the handcuffs, and it was pretty sore.

Tate wasn't doing much better than me. Her wrist was pretty red as well.

I sent Rydel out to go get us some bandages, but she wasn't back yet.

Tate and I were still in bed because we were having a lazy morning. We both didn't get the best night sleep last night.

"Riker..."

"What?"

"When is your sister coming back?"

"Soon, I hope."

"What are we doing today?"

"Well... I don't know about you, but I was thinking that maybe trying to take a shower might be something to figure out."

"If you want to..."

"I'm pretty sure you could easily slip your tank top strap between the handcuffs. And I think I might be able to get my T-shirt off."

"Ok, so who's going first?"

"Well... I think it'll be easier for you because you only have to slip your tank top strap between the handcuffs, and I have to slip my sleeve through it. So maybe you want to go first."

"I don't have clothes to change into though."

"I can give you some to borrow."

"Ok."
