"So tell me what happened between John Luke and Emily?" I ask sitting down and taking off my coat.
"Well I don't know the details but she was seeing I don't know if you remember but Easton Walker." She says
"Oh my god no, she was cheating?" I ask astonished
"Yes, for almost six months before he caught them almost a week ago, they went out to dinner together and John Luke was going to bring his mother Mrs.Langston out for dinner when they were cuddling in a booth together." My mother continued
"Poor kid, he was going to ask her to marry him." Says my grandma
"Oh no, I can't believe Emily would do such a thing she was such a sweetheart." I say and I grab a cookie to eat.
"Sorry to ask sweetie but what happened with your football Beau Jack?" Asked my mother
"I was gone to work for a few hours but I got off early to surprise him with lunch and I come home and you know Fiona, but Fiona was their and they were sleeping together. I was completely surprised. I packed my things that moment and threw my ring at him and left." I say tearing up
"Oh darling what a terrible thing how could he do such a thing." My grandmother says
"Sweetheart he is absolutely dumb, excuse what I'm about to say but he is such an idiot." My mother says standing up and hugs my head.
"Well sweetie he sure will be missing out of someone great." She adds
"Now that's the truth hon." Says Grandma Mariam.
We sit and talk for a few hours before my dad comes home along with my little brother.
"Dad!" I yell standing up and I run across the room to my father and give him a big bear hug.
"Sugar bell." He says hugging me back
"How are you?" He asks letting go
"I'm well you could say." I say giving him another big hug
"And you little Mr. Hayes." I say bending down to give him a hug and the little four year old runs into my arm
"Savvy!" He screams hugging me
"Did you see the horsey yet?" He asks
"No what's the horsey name?" I ask
"Cash, and Jellybean ." He says
"Really did you name them?" I ask smiling
"Yeah, I got to name jellybean." He says smiling from ear to ear. We catch up about what's been happening since Christmas and eat dinner together.
"I think I'm going to go to my room Dad I'm getting tired." I say hugging him again
"Okay, sugar bell I will see you in the morning." He says and I walk up the stairs to my room located near the oak tree that has my childhood fort in it. I take a seat in my bed and begin to write. My job is an author/journalist I work at the California based office for Prim magazine. Prim is sorrow a girly magazine and I'm a anonymous column that's featured every months magazine. I try to write about being content with what's going on and how everything that has recently happened is okay. When I hear a light tapping on my window. I ignore it but it begins to be faster loud. I open my window to see if it's raining and instead I see John Luke sitting on the tail gate of his truck throwing rocks.
"This is a little high school isn't it?" I yell to him. He gives me an adventurous smile and yells to me.
"Come on don't you need a little rewind, or has living in the city changed you?" He yells
"Oh please, I haven't hardly changed." I yell back
"Well then come on." He yells I grab my shoes and throw them at him from my window and I hit him.
"Fine" I yell back and I hop out of the window and close it almost completely and I walk across the roof to the oak tree. And I stretch across to the tree and I climb down.
"Surprised?" I say smiling
"I knew your parents had a valid reason to wanna cut thy tree down." He say handing me my shows.
"Oh please you were a worse kid than I was." I say putting them on.
"Oh okay, Sav" he says walking around to the drivers side opening the door.
"What did I do that was so terrible?" I ask
"Oh my god Savannah Grace Robertson your telling me that you forgot about the times you got caught by my dad sneaking back after a long night?" He says starting up his truck
"Oh hush you were doing the same things." I say and we drive off towards the river. We get to the public access site on the Ruby river and turn off the headlights.
"Wanna beer?" He offers and I grab one of them from the case.
"Thanks" I say and I twist off the top and take a drink
"You know what, this freaking sucks." I say putting my feet on the dash and leaning on John Luke
"What?" He says running his hand through my hair.
"I had it all planned out with the meathead. I was supposed to get married at 21 and move back here to Alexandria and have a couple kids maybe three or four and two golden retriever and live out my life and take over my mothers quilting business and die here. Now what am I supposed to do?" I ask him taking a long drink from my drink.
"I'm on the same boat as you, Sav." He says
"But I mean God does have a plan." He adds taking a drink and we sit in a comfortable silence for a while.
"You know what let's go." I say setting my bottle in the cup holder. And he does the same.
"What are you doing?" He asks as I get out of the truck he turns the headlights on and I stand in front of him and smile.
"Are you ready?" I ask and he stands near the edge of the truck
"For?" He says
"I'm restarting." I say and he walks towards me.
"And how are you going to do that?" He asks kicking rocks
"Watch me." I say and I begin to take off my shirt and shorts and turn towards the river and I dive in. The warm river what is simple refreshing.
"Savannah Grace, your crazy!" He says as he begins to remove his shoes and shirt then pants and runs towards me. And jumps in and he swims near me.
"I'm moving on from the evil, I'm moving on." I say and I dip my head under water again.
"So long Emily, so long Jack." He says and dips his head underneath the water.
"Isn't this refreshing?" I ask his smiling
"Sure is." He says and splashes water at me. And I try to splash him back but he grabs my hands and pulls me close and our foreheads touch
"Here's to starting something new." I say and he kisses my lips delicately.
"To something new." He says and I kiss him again.
