Okay guys, this chapter's for twilightmist15.
Thanks for pestering me!
Clara's POV
Lilly needed to get back to school.
The thought had been plaguing for a while. I felt like such a bad parent, but would the school be safe for her? Would Jace find her there?
There were other thoughts swirling around in my head as well. Such as, how had Jace managed to find us last time? It seemed like such an obvious question to be asking yet it hadn't occurred to me until a few days ago.
In the whole wide world how could Jace have known exactly what house we were staying in?
The answer was obvious yet I couldn't accept it. As much as I tried to ignore it the answer kept swirling threw my head.
He has spies everywhere, and they aren't looking out for Lilly, they're looking out for you. You are the biggest threat to her survival.
And it made sense. Every vampire knew what I looked like. I was their queen-to-be, I was in every magazine. No one would know what Lilly looked like.
You are the biggest threat to her survival.
The thought rang threw my head. Over and over and over again. I lay down on a sofa that had been next to me.
You are the biggest threat to her survival.
I heard the front door slam as Will, Amanda and Lilly came home from the park. I could hear them laughing and talking. They walked into the room, Will and Amanda swinging Lilly between them.
They looked like a perfect family.
You are the biggest threat to her survival.
And that's when the plan formed.

Jace's POV
One of the guards had brought news.
Clara had been sighted at a grocery store.
And if Clara was sighted that meant Lilly was nearby.
I smiled.

Amanda's POV
Lilly had just been put to bed and Will had reported her fast asleep.
Will sat down next to me on the sofa. We glanced at each other in concern. Something was up.
Clara was sitting on a seat across from us drumming her hands on the table. She was bighting her lip. A typical sign that something was bothering her.
Will cleared his throat and got Clara's attention. She looked at us as if she was sizing us up. I grabbed Will's hand. Something was definitely wrong.
Clara took in a deep breath as if she was going to tell us the world's biggest secret, and then she asked, "Do you too both have stable jobs?"
It took me a moment to take in what she'd just said. No world ending secret, nothing to get that worked up over. She wasn't telling us anything yet.
Will was tracing soothing patterns on my hand and I realised I must have squeezed his hand tighter. He looked at me with understanding. He knew she wasn't telling us anything until she'd gotten all the right answers.
"Um yeah I have a really good paying job and Mandy will be finishing Uni this year," Will said, absentmindedly as he watched his sister's face.
Despite the situation my lips turned up in a smile when he called me Mandy. I saw Clara watching my face and I tried to hide the smile but I knew she caught it. She looked like she was going to store that smile as information as well.
"And you're getting married soon, right?" she asked, showing no emotion.
"Yep!" I replied barely containing my bubbling joy at saying that.
Will bent down and nuzzled my neck. I giggled and saw Clara wince.
"Mandy, you want a kid right? But Will you want to wait until this mess is all sorted out?" It was more of a statement than a question.
Will jumped to argue his point. "I just think that we should-"
Clara cut him off. "I just want a yes or no answer."
"Yes," I said confidently.
Clara nodded at me.
"Well, the thing is, I think I might be the reason they're able to find me and Lilly so quickly. I was thinking maybe if I distanced myself from her it would be for the best."
"Clar, what are you suggesting?" I asked, but I knew where this was going now and I knew Clara had made up her mind.
"I'm suggesting you and Will pretend to be Lilly's parents." She rushed.
I gaped at her. She couldn't be serious right?
Will looked as if he was thinking this through, "How long for?" he asked.
Clara looked down. "For forever." She whispered, a tear rolled down her cheek.
"But Clara! I can't just pretend to be her mother! She's your child!" I yelled.
"And as her mother I'm going to do whatever it takes to ensure her safety!" she yelled back.
"Oh and what are we going to tell her when she doesn't look anything like us! Or what about when she stops aging!"
"She won't stop aging without a vampire biting her! And she'll look just like Will! Everyone will just assume that she inherited all his features!" she yelled back.
Through all of this Will had been sitting quietly but now he gave my hand a squeeze. "She's right Mandy, it will be safer for Lilly and no one will notice."
Tears started to pool in my eyes. "But that's not fair! Clar, you've raised her and put in all this effort. You can't give up now!"
I could see tears trickling down Clara's cheeks, "I'm not giving up," she said quietly, "I'm just making a safer choice."
I burst into uncontrolled tears. "IT'S NOT FAIR! IT'S NOT FAIR! IT'S NOT FAIR!" Will pulled me to him.
Clara continued to talk. By now they probably know where I am, I'll leave tonight. They'll be watching. I'll lead them astray for a while but it probably won't be safe for you to stay here. I'd give you a week at the most."
Will looked up at Clara. "You aren't even going to say goodbye to her?" he asked.
"I can't Will!" She sobbed. "It's too hard. It will be easier for all of us if I just disappear."
"She won't forget you, you know that right?" he asked. "She's not a baby anymore."
"It'll be your job to make her forget." She whispered. Her voice barely there.
Then she stood up and walked out of the room.
I sobbed into Will's shoulder as I she booked airline tickets. I cried as she slammed draws in her room, packing her bags. I watched her as she kissed Lilly on the forehead and whispered her goodbye. A soft, barely audible I'm sorry drifted from her lips.
I clung to her as she walked towards the door for the last time. She didn't even look at us. She just walked out and slammed the door.
On the other side I heard the sobs she'd been keeping in cause her whole body to shudder as she just managed to hold herself up.
I wanted so badly to open the door and hold her. To let her cry on my shoulder as she'd done for me. But the door stood between us like it was the whole vampire army.
She stumbled down the steps to an awaiting taxi.
I heard the taxi door open and close. I car start and then as it sped of out onto the street. Leaving me again, this time forever.
I hope you didn't cry as much reading this as I did writing it. I guess my characters are pretty close to me. Any other writer would understand!
