cami sat on her couch, a glass of wine in hand. breakfast at tiffany's was playing on the tv, but she wasn't really paying any attention.
she was drowning herself in pictures of her and harry, reminiscing in good times. although they fought, she was always happiest with him.
as she took the last sip of her wine, her doorbell rang. she rolled her eyes and put her glass down, throwing her blanket off of her.
sulking to the door, she opened it, not caring how she looked. in front of her was nate, her best friend. "hey, nate." she said, a smile immediately forming in her face. she pulled him into a hug, and he squeezed her tight. "what are you doing here?"
"i was thinking about you." he said. "and i missed you."
"i missed you, too." she said. "come in, i'll pour you a glass of wine."
"actually, i can't stay." he said, tapping his foot quickly — a nervous tick he had. "i just came to tell you something."
"oh, okay." she said, furrowing her eyebrows in confusion.
"cami, i've been wanting to tell you this for so long, but i never could because of harry and griffin." he said. her brown eyes locked with his, and he felt his heart speed up rapidly. "camilla robin fitzgerald, i'm so in love with you. i've never felt this way about anyone in my entire life."
cami stepped back in shock, her eyes blinking over and over again. "are you serious?" nate nodded, looking down at his feet. "nate, i love you, okay? but i just broke up with harry, and i don't think i can jump back into another relationship right now."
"yeah, i understand." nate said, forcing a smile on his face.
"i'm so sorry, nate. you're one of my best friends, and i wouldn't trade you for the world. i hope we can stay how we've always been."
"of course." nate said. "i couldn't lose you."
cami nodded, pulling him into another hug. "please don't wait for me, okay? you need to find a girl who will love you just as much as you love her. you deserve that."
"thank you, cami." he said, pulling away from the hug. "i'll call you tomorrow."
"okay." cami nodded, watching as he walked down the stairs of the porch to the driveway. he got in his car, pulling out as fast as he could, not letting her see the tears stinging his eyes.
cami shut the door, walking back over to the couch. silently, she wrapped herself up in a blanket and let a tear drop. she hated herself for hurting her best friend; he was always there for her, and it killed her that she couldn't feel the same way for him. she blamed harry for not being able to move on, to love him. she always would.
