when he saw her laying on the hospital bed, a tube down her throat, his heart dropped. she was broken, weak, vulnerable, and he wanted to wave a magic wand and fix it.
"cami..." he trailed off, walking to her bedside, holding her hand as tightly as he could. "wake up, baby. don't give up on me."
her eyes were shut, breathing every now and again, her chest rising and falling. the doctors had told harry that the ventilator was breathing for her, that she couldn't breathe on her own.
his world had shattered, just seeing her there. she was his world, and he couldn't live without her, even if they were broken up.
"come on, cams. don't leave me yet. i'm not supposed to outlive you, your mom isn't supposed to outlive you, your friends aren't supposed to outlive you. you're supposed to outlive us all. this just can't happen, love, it can't." he said, his eyes shedding tears. "i love you, camilla robin fitzgerald. god, i love you."
the doctor came in the room, and harry looked up at him, never letting her hand go. the look on the doctor's face was scaring harry, he was terrified.
"i'm sorry, mr. styles." the doctor said.
"no—"
"she's brain dead, she isn't going to wake up." he said. "i'm very sorry for your loss."
"no." harry shook his head. "this isn't happening. please, tell me this isn't happening."
"i'm very, very sorry."
"stop! just — stop saying that, please." harry begged. "she's too young. she needs to live."
"mr. styles, we need to discuss what we have to do going forward." the doctor said. "is she an organ donor?"
"i-i don't..." harry shook his head. "i can't let her go, not like this."
"i know how hard this must be—"
"no, you don't. no offense, but you don't know. i'm losing the girl i'm in love with. i'll never hear her beautiful laugh again, or see her mesmerizing eyes again." harry said.
"mr. styles, the longer we wait, the less likely it will be for her organs to remain viable." the doctor said.
"yeah, i get it, okay?" harry said, his eyes completely glassed over with tears. "can you just — call her mom, okay? she should know. and nate, call nate."
"sure, we can do that." the doctor said. "let me go find a nurse."
the doctor left, and harry put his head on the bed, crying. he gripped her hand in his, wanting for her to wake up, to just wake up.
"cami, baby, if you can hear me, i need you to open your eyes. show the doctor you're alive, and that i can take you home soon." harry said. "come on, love. wake up for me. open those pretty eyes for me."
unfortunately, she wasn't going to wake up, and harry was soon going to have to come to that realization.
