It had been a couple of days since Richard and Kimberley had returned to London from France and the same amount of time since their display of unity walking through Heathrow Airport with a hrode of journalists waiting to find out whether she was prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt or if their fledgling marriage was over. Richard knew she had forgiven herself for ever believing it, and although she had asked him to forgive her for believing it in the first place, he had quickly made it clear to her that there was nothing there to forgive.

That made Kimberley happier than Richard was aware because at some point during their two weeks in Tahiti, his little swimmers had managed to latch on and create a new life, but she had yet to tell him the news. So during a lazy Saturday morning in their bedroom together was as far as she could see the best time of all to tell him, hoping against hope that he would take it in the way that she had hoped because he knew she was not the sort of person to cheat on the one she was romantically/personally involved with.

"Richie" she whispered using his nickname as he started waking up, his blue eyes locking onto her blue-green eyes, causing him to smile as he always did when he opened his eyes and saw her first thing in the morning, "Morning darling" he whispered back as he leaned in and gently kissed her, looking at her in a very adoring way, "There's something different about you Kim my darling" he commented and it was then that she seemed to freeze up, causing him to put all of his body weight on one arm, clearly worried that he had somehow caused her alarm.

After calming him and getting him to lay back down on the pillows again, she cuddled up to him as she began her little speech, leading up to her news. "Do you remember how you had used room service at the Tahitian resort to your advantage; so that we could make love as often as we wanted to" she said in a tone of voice that only he could hear, kissing the top of her head as he replied affirmatively in his seductive morning voice, "Well sometime during that time as my mother would put it; your little swimmers latched on".

She pulled away slightly and looked up at him as he worked out just what she was trying to say to him. Then it hit and the smile that broke out on his face not only reached the corners of his eyes but it almost reached the corners of his face it was that broad and near blinding given how whtie his teeth looked in the wrong kind of light, and that on this particular day seemed to include sunlight. "Kim honey do you mean you're" he stammered, cutting off as she nodded, a megawatt smile of her own breaking out.

"Have you been for your first ultrasound yet sweetheart" he asked as they walked around the kitchen a couple of minutes later, Richard suddenly determined to see to it that she didn't go without something to eat in the mornings. "No I haven't yet" she replied, "Dr Galverson has agreed to hold off on sending me for any scans until you returned" and it was with those few words that she came up behind Richard and wrapped her arms around his waist, smiling as he put his hands on hers before turning around and gently bringing her lips up to his.

"It just didn't feel right going for the first scan and not having my husband; the father of our unborn child there with me" she continued as she put her head on his chest, prompting him wordlessly to wrap his arms around her, which he did, but at the same time taking care not to be too rough with her. Smiling into his chest, she lifted her head long enough to tell him that the baby was too small to feel anything that was going on around it, and that he could still be holding her as hard as he wanted.

A couple of days later Richard and Kimberley found themselves at a Harley Street clinic that Dr Galverson had sent them to, mostly because one of the sonographers was a very close friend of hers from a long time ago. "Good the dad's here" Dr Karen Michaelson said as she helped Kimberley up onto the examination table before reclining it so that she and Richard were both able to get a better view of their baby, "This is going to be a little cold so I apologise for that" Karen laughed as she put cool, clear gel on the mum-to-be's stomach.

Moving the doppler around on her stomach for a few seconds Dr Michaelson very soon encountered a strong fetal heartbeat which she switched on so that Richard was able to get to hear it as well. The look on Richard's face said all Kimberley needed to hear, that he was every bit as happy as she was about this relationship development, even if it did happen in the first twelve months, but at the same time they knew how lucky they were to have been able to conceive this baby when there were so many others out there trying without success.

"We seem to be far enough along to be able to find out if it's a boy or a girl do you want me to tell you now or wait a little longer so that the baby's a little bigger and we're able to say it for sure" Karen asked, bringing Richard out of his trance as he briefly glanced over at Kimberley, both agreeing to wait until the baby was a little bigger and that way they would be able to know for sure without finding out they were wrong when the first prediction of the gender was made.
