"Weirdo," Violet was doing her make up in the car's mirror, "Why didn't you just kiss him?"
"I don't know," I parked the car in the school parking lot, "It didn't feel right."
"Loser," she said as we got out of the car, "What's up with you?"
Honour was waiting for us, wearing clothes that screamed "stripper" ten times much as yesterday. I don't know how she made that possible.
Doesn't our school have a dress code?
"How was your walk?" she grinned.
"Why you asking?" I asked.
"Because," she said, "He's not here today. You scare him?"
"No," I turned red.
"Well, I wore this for nothing."
My phone went off.
Skip school it said it's an emergency.
"I have to go," I told them.
Violet was in panic, "Wait. Where?"
"I don't really know," I got in my car, "But I have a pretty good idea."
I got into my car and sped away.
I was racing towards the park.
Where else was I supposed to go?
Did Cosmo even have a house?
At a stop light, that's when I noticed something odd.
As I tightly gripped the wheel of my car, the ring that Cosmo gave me was glowing. It had a pulsating light and a quiet drone. Odd.
As I parked at the curb, I noticed Cosmo. He sitting on a park bench with his face in his palms. When I parked he looked up, and gave me a look of panic.
When I walked up, he gripped my shoulders and looked intensely into my eyes.
"You need to make a decision," he told me, "You can stay here or leave."
"Leave?"
"Yes," he breathed, "You know that ring I got you. Break it, drink the serum, and you can become like me."
"You?"
"It's only a benefit," he was in a panic, "I'm not completely different. I'm human, I'm just more... evolved. I'm a nomad. I travel around space. I was alone. I saw you. I loved you. Your looks, your aura.... your personality was undeniably beautiful."
"Why are you so stressed?" I knew it was something more to it than loneliness.
He got quiet.
"Cosmo."
He wasn't saying anything.
"Tell me now," I was becoming increasingly agitated .
"Your world," he looked at the pretty blue sky, "You can't see it but it's ending. In ten minutes this place will be garbage. It's done. I don't want to live without you, but if you come with me, you're going to have to experience the pain of knowing that everyone you know and love is gone."
I sat and thought. He was right. All my friends, especially Violet, would be a burden to carry. I think I would even miss Honour.
I looked at Cosmo.
"I'm going to take the serum," I told him.
"Are you sure?" he asked, "It's going to hurt see you living in a lot of pain."
