Chapter 5

"Hey you ready?"

I was startled from my thoughts bynon other than Alex. She looked nice in her khaki pants and light blue button up. Her long hair was loose and a hat was plopped on her head to keep her hair place.

She looked quite nice.
"Yeah I'm ready, are your friends here now?", answered quietly.

"They should be here any second let's go out and wait." She looked at me for a second and then started walking towards the door.

I grabbed my back pack and as so on as I yelled a goodbye to Nancy and closed the door,a mini van pulled up. There were a bunch of girls in there with the speakers blasting music. They all looked friendly I guess since they had smiles on their faces.

Alex pulled the door open for me and while I entered tons of hi's and hello's where being yelled at me, I also got a few high fives. Woah, I felt a bit overwhelmed by everyone's presence. I quickly Sat down and Alex plopped down next to me. Most of the girls were having conversations with the people they were sitting next to. Alex was conversing to the girl on the seats opposite us. I felt a bit left out but I should introduce myself when we get off so for now I just closed my eyes, at least I would be able to keep my energy.

All of a sudden I was rudely awoken and freighted.
I shot my eyes open and I let a ear piercing scream when all these girls were surrounding me and looking at me. Oh,yeah...I agreed to go out with Alex and her friends.

I turned blood red and quickly started to mumble out a few sentences hoping to not make it awkward. "Sorry, I ugh just well panicked, I'm sorry for screaming."

Alex's friends seemed to understand and laughed to lighten the mood. They all said it was okay and started getting out of the van.

I shyly got out of van quickly following Alex. Why was I so awkward, I had never been so shy. Alex turned to me and squeezed my shoulder in lightly for comfort since she probably noticed my flushed embarrassed state.

"Well hi there,you must be Alex's friend. I'm Carly."

I gave her a shy smile and introduced myself. She in return yelled at the other 3 girls including Alex introducing me to them.

Each and every one of them was kind and welcoming. So there was Carly the blonde with party type personality. Chayla the portugese girl who was very sweet and caring making sure I was included. Sam was super muscular and strong she kindly offered to carry my back pack if I got tired. Valery who was super short but had the loudest mouth.

We lined up in the long queue to pay for our admission into the fun park. At least the line was moving fast. While waiting in the line the girls asked me a few questions about myself. They asked me about my favorite shows and food and what not but one nice thing about the whole conversation with all the girls non of them brought up the obvious fact that I had cancer. Maybe Alex had already told them and asked them to not bring it up.

We all payed separately for our entry but Alex and I received a bright neon pink colored band instead of a Green one since we weren't allowed to go on all the rides. It was obvious because anyone could see I had a oxygen tank and that Alex had a broken leg.

After entering the park with
our band's on. Wow I had never been to such a place like this. It was quite loud since people chatted carelessly and laughed away. Music played loudly from each game stall and most of the songs were the upbeat or classic party songs. And every now and then I could here a roller coaster whizz through the air and people's petrified screams erupt. There were people of all ages and plenty of games and rides and food stalls to choose from. We started deciding where we would go first and if we were going to go as a group or split up.

Well Alex and I were going to be together since well we couldn't go on any of hectic rides. We all had agreed on meeting around 2 for lunch in the food court and the other groups of girls had ran off excitedly to have fun.

Alex and I had not spoken much since we got here she mostly listened to what I was saying and chatted with Carly. I cleared my throat and was just about to ask her where we should go when she excitedly said.

"Hey c'mon let's go to the game stalls!"
She got a bit too excited and nearly fell over while trying to rampantly go fast. Did she forget that she had crutches.

I rolled my eyes at her and then carried on walking next to her. I don't think I had ever seen someone so excited to play carnival games. If she was able to win anything, I would seriously be surprised since what I had heard as a kid was that these carnival games looked easy to win but had been rigged in such that when you did play the game you would end up losing.

Alex fumbled in her wallet to get her money out to give to the guy managing the ball and bucket toss. The chubby man with a deep voice named Greg gave her 5 yellow balls to throw in. If she was able to throw in 3 out of the balls into the bucket without missing or any of them falling out she would win a big prize.

"Watch me Cassy I am going to get them all in!" She said excitedly.

"We'll see Alex if you manage to get them all in then I'll pay for your next game but if you don't then you owe me some ice cream." I said with a smug look on my face because there was no way she could get any of the balls in. I watched a couple of people before us playing the game and even when the ball went in it would come right out.

"Okay it's a deal! Now please hold one of crutches while I show you who's the winner." While supporting herself on one of her crutches, she threw the ball with her free hand pretty hard. The ball hit the bottom of the bucket but since she hit it so hard it ended up bouncing out.

I winked at her and she just groaned and hoped for a better chance at her second try. Greg showed her how to do it, telling her to slightly angle her hand and throw the ball softly at the side of the bucket.

She did exactly that and the ball actually stayed in this time. She yelled a yes and then did the same with the third ball,it went in. And now she only had to get in one out of the two balls.

She licked her lips and squinted her eyes and then released the ball........
BAMM! The ball went in.
How did she even manage to get it in.
There were so many people who tried before us and didn't even get one in.

"So I remember you said you'd pay for my next game?" She looked at me with a smug look on her face and wiggled her eyebrows.

Alex chose the panda bear for herself and as soon as the stuffed bear was in her possession,she squeezed it and hugged it tight to her chest. "So Cassy tell me what should we name him? What about Mr Cutie?"

"No I think he's more of a booger." Alex looked at me and smirked. "Okay then Mr Booger it is."

"So where we off to next?" I asked as Alex had won the bet and now she could choose the next game stall to have a shot at.

Alex stood there awkwardly holding Mr booger and I realized it was because she needed her crutches. I handed her crutches to her and took the bear out of her hands.

"Sorry I hope you don't mind carrying him." Alex said guilty.

"No it's fine don't worry. Now where do you want to?" I said quickly because I could feel the sun burning me.

"Can we go to the petting zoo?"
She asked ever so innocently and I agreed even though I shouldn't be anywhere near them.

When we finally reached the area I took a seat on one of the benches to catch my breath. Alex plopped herself next to me.

She grabbed my hand to catch my attention which surprised me just a little bit.
"Are you okay? We can rest for a while if you would like that and if you need your oxygen please just put it on no one cares honestly."
She was genuine with her words and she was caring.

I smiled at her and squeezed her hand lightly. I opened my bag and loosened the oxygen valve so it could start flowing and popped in the nasal cannula. Woah I felt way better now.

I showed her a thumbs up and she got up ready to go.
