The Forest

As Luke ran deep into the overgrown forest, Elle could feel her cut wounds rubbing against his shoulder. She squinted at the pain but didn't make a sound. She couldn't say how long the had been running for, all she knew was that if there was anyone on their trail, they would have a hard time finding them.

They finally stop and Luke was out of breathe. He gently placed Elle onto the ground , perched against a tree which was covered in soft green moss. The smell of the forest was like nothing either of them had smelt before. It smelt fresh an dewy as the morning was starting to come in. Everything around them was covered in a thick layer of ice.

Elle's bones started to rattle as the shivers down her spine grew stronger. she was wearing hardly any clothes and the temperature of the wilderness was plummeting past 0'c . Luke could hear her shivering and took of his large coat and gave it to her. it hung off of her but she cuddled herself into it. she sat silent as Luke sparked up a cigarette , he offered Elle one and she took it from the box. they sat close in the abandoned forest and Luke spoke in a quiet voice ."are you okay? you know... i am sorry about the things i had to do to you. if it wasn't for the fact i had a bomb strapped to my stomach i wouldn't have done it" he chuckled slightly after speaking.

Elle smiled at him "honestly, it doesn't bother me. i'm just more confused about Toby." she inhaled a tonne of smoke before speaking again. " why is Toby so special to them " she looked up at Luke as he nearly finished his smoke.

Luke looked down at the small shivering girl and spoke softly " all i know is that Toby was a very important cat to a very important boss." he took a deep breathe and pulled up his sleeves. his muscular arms, covered in a variety of tribal tattoos and words. " you see this" he point at a small circle with a symbol filling it which laid in his skin " this is a big gang. they deal with drugs, weapons, murder.... basically anything you can think of which is illegal" he chuckled slightly " well i was in this gang and have been for years. Toby was the big bosses cat, Toby used to be our mascot and drug carrier."

as Elle heard this about her only friend a sign of confusing covered her face. "drugs? you mean they , like... put drugs insi" before she could finish speaking she heard a load of gunshots in the distance. Luke jumped up onto his feet once more and looked into the distance . he could see many headlights.

as Luke started to gather his belongings together once more, Elle could hear him swearing multiple times under his breathe, but before she could do anything he picked her up once again and threw her over his shoulder. the only difference this time was that Elle was wearing a large coat.

Luke started running quicker than before . they were heading deeper into the forest . Elle looked up and could see the headlights growing brighter then all of a sudden turning off. she gulped but she felt Luke stop running.

In front of Luke was lights of some sort of village. he ran down a hill and into the village . they bolted into one of the houses. the family living there were scared. Luke spoke softly " have you got a basement we can hide in" he smiled shortly after. the family lead them into the basement. Luke turned and placed Elle down on the bottom step before turning his back and talking to the stranger.

Elle looked around as a small dim light struggled to fill the room.

where were they now?

are they safe?

who was following them?...

all these thoughts flooded her mind as everything around her went silent.
