"Alex?"

Meg stands infront of the navy blue door infront of her, waiting for a response from the other side. Looking up she smiles at the four letters that was nailed on the middle of the door. Her son's name in yellow letters. ALEX.

"Yes Mom?" Alex replies, his voice soft.

"Baby can I come in?" Meg says smiling at the door.

"Okay." Alex replies.

Grinning Meg turns the door knob and enters the room. The smell of cinnamon greets Meg as soon as she walks in, Alex's favorite scent. Her eyes focuses on the navy blue walls, decorated with white clouds and stars that glow in the dark. She turns her attention towards the bed, where Alex is seated beside his bedside table, his lamp turned on, as he reads through his new book. The grin never leaving Meg's face, she carefully sat down infront of Alex's tucked feet and peaks underneath his book to see what the title was. She chuckles as she reads, "Harry Potter" on the front cover and then back at her son's serious face, his eyes gliding through the words on the page.

"I take it you like my present?" Meg said in amusement.

Alex stops reading and looks up, he gives Meg a big grin, "I love it Mom!"

Meg chuckles as Alex goes back to reading, his face turning serious again.

This image was too familiar for Meg.

Sighing internally, Meg clears her throat, "But baby, it's already 10, you need to go to bed now." she says as she holds onto Alex's arm, rubbing gently, "You can read again tomorrow, I'll let you stay a little late if you want." Meg says giving Alex a smile.

Alex breathes out, smiles at Meg and then shuts his book down slowly. He places it on his bedside table and settles in on his bed. Meg stands up and pulls the red comforter up, helping Alex find his spot on his bed and then tucking him in.

"Thank you baby." Meg says touching Alex's cheeks gently as she sits down on his bed again.

Smiling Alex shakes his head, "No Mom, thank you for today."

Meg chuckles, "Did you enjoy your birthday?"

Alex nods, his eyes bright.

"What did you wish for this year?" Meg asks rubbing the back of her hand on Alex's cheeks.

Alex shrugs, "The same as last year and the other years."

"Well, you're 8 now, aren't I allowed to know what that is?" Meg says smiling, "You'd never know, I might be able to make it come true if you've told me before." she added as she touches Alex's chin.

Alex grins, his eyes bright and teasing, "Really?"

This too was too familiar for Meg.

Meg laughs, "Yes! So come on, tell Mommy!"

Turning serious, Alex places his hand on Meg's hand and squeezes, "Can I meet Dad?"

A shock expression crosses Meg's features. She did not expected that. Not in a few more years.

But then again, Alex was too smart for his age. Meg thought to herself. She looks at her son's wide expecting eyes and couldn't help but feel her heart being gripped at the sight of it. The realization that he has been wishing this on all his birthdays made Meg's heart constrict, making it hard for her to breathe.

Gripping Alex's hands back, Meg tries to give him a smile, "Alex..."

Alex purses his lips and sighs, "I know."

Meg lifts her right hand and places it on Alex's cheeks, "One day, Baby."

Alex looks up at Meg, his eyes sad, "Okay Mom."
