Chapter 27 ~  Another Summer Ends

“What happened to this golf club?” Uncle Aidan was carefully inspecting one of his clubs. He held it at his eye level and even closing one eye to examine it.

I bet he noticed it was slightly bent. That is probably the one I used to hit Dylan a few days ago.

I heard a snort to my left and Dylan shot me a glance, smirking. “Someone tried to murder me with it.”

I narrowed my eyes at him. “I did not.” I said indignantly. I genuinely thought he was an intruder at that time.

He snorted again and I hit his arm. Aunt Lily and Derek were chuckling quietly.

We have updated Aunt Lily and Uncle Aidan on what happened when they were away. They were relieved that Julianna was stopped by Lady Marquardt before she was able to hurt herself or us.

Lady Marquardt is still recuperating in the hospital but their move to the UK has been finalized by Lord M. They will be away from us for good.

“Kids, I hope you don’t do any more of those stunts or act on impulse. It’s good that Julianna was restrained before she got to you. What if she wasn’t?” I heard Uncle Aidan lecturing Dylan. I looked at Dylan, smirking. He couldn’t look at his Dad in the eye. “I am glad Rick was here to look into the matter while I was away.”

“Cate, you’re not off the hook either. You need to learn how to follow instructions. They are given for a reason. When Dylan tells you to stay where you are, you stay where you are.” Aunt Lily lectures me this time. It was Dylan’s turn to smirk at me. I stuck my tongue out at him.

“It would have helped if he told me why I had to follow his instructions in the first place.” I reasoned out. I turned my nose up at Dylan who was still smirking at me.

Uncle Aidan and Aunt Lily looked at each other like they are conversing thru their eyes.

Uncle Aidan sighed. “Never keep secrets from each other. It is hard to understand each other sometimes even when we use words. Neither of you read minds. It is best to articulate your thoughts and discuss them.”

“I couldn’t agree with you more.” I smiled up at him then turned my attention back to Dylan with a scowl.

“You’re not going to let it go, are you?” Dylan also narrowed his eyes at me.

I shook my head then smiled. I have forgotten about the fact that he kept me in the dark during the Julianna incident. He smiled and took the hint that I was just teasing him.

“Don’t stay angry at each other. Let the other person know how you feel so you can resolve it.” Aunt Lily smiled at us. She looks genuinely happy that we are together. “Ready for school on Monday?” She asked, changing the topic.

I pretended to think about it then I nodded smiling. If I could skip high school and go straight to college, I would. That is just wishful thinking. “I am crossing my fingers to graduate from this one.” I chuckled.

“You better.” I felt someone tap my shoulder. I looked up to see my brother raising an eyebrow at me. I smiled sheepishly and stood up to hug him.

At lunch, it has been decided that we will be driving to the city on Sunday night.

Ian will drive me to school as usual on Monday. It is tradition. He always drives me to school on the first day. He had to do that several times in the past years because I switched schools a lot of times.

Ten more months and I will be out of high school, yeeha!

I heard a knock on my door then Dylan’s head popped in. “Hey babe, I need your help downstairs.”
