Third Person POV:
It was a beautiful, sunny day out. The type of day that Richie and Eddie loved to go for ice cream on. Well, more like Richie loved to go for ice cream on. Of course, Eddie loved the trips to the ice cream shop as well but he was in for it for a completely different reason than the Trashmouth was. He got something much sweeter than ice cream. No, he got to see the real Richie Tozier. Not the dirty-minded asshole everyone else got. He got to watch his best friend as he mouthed the words to the shitty songs that played on through the diner speaker system, as he got ice cream all over his face without a care in the world, as he laughed to the little things Eddie said, as he finally let himself go. That was the Richie that Eddie loved to see. The Richie he could stare at all day long wondering just how someone could be so angelic. Yet, the only time he could see this part of his best friend was in their booth in the small well-known diner in Derry, Maine. No, Richie wasn't that way around the other Losers. He put up a front; he tried to hide his emotions. Eddie couldn't stand it! Until he realized that no matter what part of Richie he got to see, with every word the boy spoke he would only fall more in love with him.
And Eddie hated that.
A soft giggle interrupted his thoughts. He looked up seeing Richie's face covered in chocolate ice cream. "What's so funny?" He spoke in a confused tone not understanding the cause of the boys' laughter.
Richie laughed again. "You, Eds."
"Don't call me that," Eddie responded. With adoration shining through his eyes he continued, "And what'd I do?"
"You have-" He cut himself off with yet another snicker coming from his mouth, "A little bit of ice cream- "another giggle, "on your face!" Eddie stared at him in shock. Richie's was covered in the sticky treat! And yet, here he was laughing at Eddie for the small amount on his cheek.
"Rich! Can you not feel your face! You're practically swimming in ice cream!" Eddie yelled back in protest.
"Ya, but that's normal for me, Eds, you never get any of it on yourself." Richie was quick to respond.
"Ya well-" He cut himself off by looking outside into the dark depths of the storm that was suddenly brewing outside. Reminding Eddie of the day little Georgie Denbrough was killed. He sighed sadly, shaking his head at the depressing thoughts. Richie followed his gaze out the window and was immediately disappointed in the result.
"What the fuck? It was literally the sunniest day we've seen in months, and suddenly it changes?" Richie said with sadness clear in his tone. Eddie nodded with a sigh.
"Come on, Rich, we better finish so we can start walking home. It could only get worse the longer we're out here and I do not want any more chances of catching a cold." Eddie said his voice stern because of his worry of getting sick. After all, it was his worst fear.
Richie agreed without protest and quickly finished his ice cream and cleaning off his face.
"Ready to go?" Eddie asked once he saw this. Richie quickly shook his head. His face now adorned a blush and he looked down in a fast manner. "Whats wrong?" Eddie stared at the beet-red boy patiently waiting for a response. When he didn't get one he tried once more knowing exactly what to say to make the boy cave, "Bubba?" he asked gently.
Richie's face erupted into a massive blush. Eddie new that that pet-name made his heart melt and his stomach fill with butterflies.
"You um, you still have... Here." He said in a flustered and shy manner (something Richie only ever lets Eddie see in him) and then he hesitantly kissed Eddie's cheek to get a bit of the leftover vanilla ice cream off of Eddie's cheek. He pulled away blushing like crazy.
You see, Richie may act like a huge flirt but in reality, he was very shy around someone he happened to like. He was not the best with his emotions. At all.
Eddie in this moment blushed as red as a tomato. He dropped his head and looked up with his doe-eyes at Richie. His best friend, the boy he spent almost every Saturday at this diner with, the one who was there for him when Gretta Whats-Her-Face signed "Loser" on his cast, the boy he fought an evil clown with, the gorgeous Trashmouth he fell in love with just kissed his cheek. "Th-Thanks, Richie."
"N-no problem, Eddie Spaghetti!" It seems they had both picked up some traits from their longtime friend, Stuttering Bill Denbrough. "Now let's get going, Dr. K! Don't want you catching a cold!" Richie continued on in his horrible British Voice. Eddie rolled his eyes fondly; his Richie was back.
"Come on you fucking Trashmouth."
***
They had been walking for awhile now in the horrible storm quietly talking amongst themselves about anything they could. At the moment they were both engrossed in a conversation about the new Spiderman comic that had recently come out. So engrossed that they hadn't realized that their hands were entwined with one another's.
"Stan Lee totally outdid himself on this one Eds! It was great! Had some pretty hot chicks too! Not as hot as your mom of course." Richie said enthusiastically. Now that they were outside of their personal safe haven Richie was back to cracking mom jokes left and right. Eddie rolled his eyes and muttered a quiet, "shut the fuck up" being too focused on staying dry on their journey to his house to pay attention to Richie's annoying jokes about his mother.
"I'm just sayin' Eds don't be surprised if I'm over a little late tonight. Fucking your mom takes a lot outta a guy, you know?"
Eddie rolled his eyes again. Why was he in love with this idiot again? Oh, yea. He's gorgeous, he's funny, he's cute as shit, he's perfect! And so much more but goddamn there weren't words fitting enough to describe the boy. But his favorite part about Richie had to be those eyes. Those captivating eyes magnified by his bulky coke-bottle glasses. God, they could compel Eddie to do absolutely anything they wanted. Why? Because Eddie was in love with those damn eyes. In fact, a lot of the time Eddie called Richie "Bright Eyes" after one of his favorite songs. Because the title honestly fits him.
"Earth to Eds! Earth to the Spaghetti Man!" Richie said snapping his fingers in front of Eddie's face.
"Don't call me that, asshole!" He said pushing Richie's hand out of his face. Richie giggled.
"Maybe I'll stop one day, Ed's!" Richie said stopping, laughing, and throwing his head back looking up at the sky just letting himself get soaked in the rain.
"What are you doing?"
"Enjoying life." Richie said looking back down and smiling softly at Eddie. In that moment the world stopped. All there was was Eddie staring at Richie's cute little smile, and Richie staring at Eddie's adorable face. That when Eddie did the thing he was afraid of doing most:
He kissed the boy he loved.
And that boy kissed back.
It lasted maybe ten seconds. The best ten seconds of their lives. When they pulled away they looked into each other's eyes and knew that their lives just changed for the best. They stared at each other for another minute and a half in the pouring rain, strangers passing by gave them very peculiar looks but neither boy noticed. They were about to lean in again when Eddie's watch went off signaling that he had to take his one o'clock medication.
"Shit!" He cursed before taking off down the road; he stopped about midway down the block and turned around, running back to the shocked boy. He gave Richie another peck on the lips and a quick, "Bye babe!" before taking off again.
And god did Richie love it. He stood there for five minutes smiling like an idiot before taking off down the road towards his house still not being able to wipe the evidence of utter bliss off of his face.
He was so in love.
