Percy Jackson - Bane of Tartarus

Chapter 4

Annabeth's POV

I saw the anger in Percy's eyes and knew that instant what he was going to do. I know Apollo needs help but it doesn't have to be from us. Gods won't do the same if the roles were reversed, hell they don't even help their own. Percy is too selfless and someone needs to keep him in check so that he doesn't get himself killed over someone who won't even give him a second thought. I gestured Percy towards the bedroom and then he left. "I'll be back" I told Apollo then followed Percy to the bedroom.

I closed the door behind me as I entered our bedroom. Percy was standing close to the window, looking sad and staring into space. "Percy, I know what you're thinking and I won't let you do it. You're not going to get killed over some man-hating Goddess. I won't let you", I said with a stern voice.

Percy turned towards me, his sea green eyes getting darker by the second. "You heard him Annabeth. He has no one to help him. I've a little sister, I can't imagine how I would feel if something even remotely close to that ever happened to her. I have to do it Annabeth. We are supposed to be living like mortals, the best of them. Let me be a mortal at heart and be better than those cowards sitting in Olympus."

I knew I was losing the argument but I had to do something or I would lose him forever. The Goddess would reform but my Percy, he would be gone forever. "Percy!" I shouted, "If you step out of the door to help Apollo, you'll lose me forever. I thought I lost you before the second giant war, I can't go through that again. I won't go through that again. So, Percy Jackson what is it going to be?" I was shaking from both anger and fear.

Percy's POV

I don't think I have ever seen Annabeth get this angry. I know that it hasn't been easy between us with Hera abducting me and wiping my memory and the giant war but for past few months life has been like a dream come true. I also know that I could possibly be throwing everything we have worked for but I had to help him. If I didn't, how am I any different from those so called Gods? Besides Apollo wasn't here as a God but as a brother who couldn't do anything as his sister was literally dragged to hell and I know I would do anything for Estelle. So, I was definitely going to help him and I know Annabeth would understand when I return in a couple of days or at most a month or so. I kissed Annabeth on cheek and whispered, "I love you, Wise Girl. I'll be back before you know it." Then I left for the living room as I heard Annabeth sobbing behind me, I felt guilty but my mind was made up.

It took me about 15 minutes to brush, take a bath and get ready. I entered living room to find Apollo sitting at the same place with his face in his palms. I walked up to him and put my hand on his right shoulder. He quickly jumped to his feet. I could see the nervousness on his face. I tapped his shoulder and said, "Let's go get your sister back from your evil great grandma" attempting to lighten the mood at which he managed a small smile. I took what might be the last look at the life I always dreamed of, the life I could have had and with a deep breath I turned my back on it.

Annabeth's POV

That idiot Seaweed Brain always has to help people without thinking of consequences. It's not like he has to go to a different city or state or even country, it's freaking Tartarus for Zeus's sake. Why does he always have to be the one to save the day? What should I do, should I continue without him or should I follow him? I remember Tartarus like I was there yesterday, even after a year has passed I still get nightmares about that place. That is the last place I want to visit again no matter what. There it was, my answer, I was not going to Tartarus. "I sincerely hope that you make it back Percy but you might not find me waiting if you don't get back soon. I love you and I'll miss you", I mumbled in my breath as I heard the door close leaving me alone in the apartment.
