"This body will do." –Unknown
What is this?
"Let's begin the operation." –Unknown
Where am I? The last thing I remember was being with Jehoram. We were walking together, talking about—what was it? My mind was fuzzy, memories jumbled like pieces of a broken puzzle.
"Prepare for the heart transplant." –Unknown
Heart transplant? What are they talking about? Fear surged through me. I wanted to move, but my limbs felt like lead, heavy and unresponsive. I couldn't feel my body, as if I had been detached from it completely.
"Herodias!" –Unknown
"I'll take care of it." –Herodias
My eyes fluttered open, my vision blurry, and I tried to take in my surroundings. Cold sweat dripped down my forehead as I blinked away the fog clouding my mind. The first thing I noticed was that I wasn't alone. I was surrounded by figures—shadowy figures that seemed like specters, their faces hidden, their identities a mystery. The air was thick with tension, an eerie silence that pressed on my chest, making it hard to breathe.
But there, in the center of the room, illuminated by an unseen light, was one person I could recognize. Unlike the others, he stood tall, clear as day, a figure whose presence demanded reverence. It was him—the Pope. The one who governed the Church and now presided over the divine law of this world, the Bible's representative in our reality.
Twelve of us were gathered here. Twelve figures standing in a circle. But I was the only one who felt like an outsider. Everyone else moved with purpose, as if they knew exactly what was happening. I, on the other hand, had no idea how I had ended up here.
"Well, well... Looks like the God candidate from the Judas District is still alive." –Unknown 1
The voice came from my left. It was mocking, laced with contempt.
"It seems we failed to kill you." –Unknown 2
Another voice, this time from my right. Cold and sharp, like the edge of a blade.
"Pathetic. Five of you worked together, and yet you still couldn't get rid of him." –Unknown 3
Who were these people? They spoke as if they had already decided my fate, as if I were a mere obstacle in their path. But why? What had I done? My heart raced as confusion and panic swirled inside me.
"Since everyone is now present, allow me to explain the Game of Divines once more. Judas District candidate, you are now the new God candidate of your district." –Pope, G.O.D Council Head
God candidate? What is he talking about? I wasn't part of any game!
"Can I ask a question?" –Unknown 4
A voice from the shadows interrupted my thoughts.
"Go ahead, Bartholomew District candidate." –Pope
The figure stepped forward slightly. His posture was confident, yet curious.
"I'm just curious—how was the Judas District's candidate changed? What happened?" –Bartholomew District candidate
"I can't fully explain what transpired, but as you can all observe, the power of Judas still flows through him." –Pope
"Wait! I still don't understand any of this! There's no way I could be a God candidate! I'm not King Judas! You've got the wrong person!" I protested, my voice cracking under the weight of the absurdity.
"Judas and you are one." –Pope
"Judas and I are one?" My words were a whisper, more to myself than to anyone else. How could that be true? Yes, we shared the same bloodline. I was a descendant of Judas, the traitor. But that didn't mean I was him! How could I possibly carry the burden of his legacy?
The room felt even smaller, the air stifling as I struggled to come to terms with what was happening. Was this all some sort of sick joke? A twisted nightmare?
"There's still a week before the true game begins, but you've already told us to kill each other. Of all the candidates, we only knew King Judas. How are we supposed to eliminate the others?" –Unknown 5
"It is up to you to discover the identity of the God candidates from each district." –Pope
My stomach twisted at the mention of the word "kill." Was that what this was? A game of death? A competition to see who would be the last one standing? But why? And what did it have to do with being a God?
"So, we need to uncover their identities before we can kill them, huh?" –Unknown 6
"Once your identity is known, you may already be as good as dead. Discover their identities. If you know you're about to die, avoid them. That is the essence of this game." –Pope
A chill ran down my spine. This wasn't a game—it was a massacre waiting to happen. Twelve districts, twelve candidates. One throne.
"Judas God candidate, you should be dead by all accounts, given your injuries. Yet, here you are, still alive. This is the greatest miracle I have ever witnessed. But will you let the Judas District, a den of sinners, claim the divine throne?" –Pope
I felt my heart seize in my chest. The way he spoke—condescending, as if the very idea of someone from the Judas District ascending to godhood was laughable. But he didn't know me. He didn't know who I was.
"To the victor, to the last one standing—the throne of God shall be yours! Live or die, there are twelve of you. Kill before you are killed. This is the path to winning the divine throne." –Pope
"This battle will be quite the spectacle!" –Unknown 7
"Judas District, huh?" –Unknown 8
"Goodbye, Judas District candidate." –Unknown 9
"Let's hope you're not dead by the time we meet." –Unknown 10
"Farewell. Good luck, Judas District candidate!" –Unknown 11
"Wait!" I shouted, my voice trembling with desperation. But it was too late. The meeting had ended, and the shadows began to disperse.
"This meeting is adjourned." –Pope
And just like that, I was left standing in the center of the room, alone. The weight of their words crashed down on me like a tidal wave. My legs gave out beneath me, and I collapsed to the ground, gasping for air.
Oh God... I beg you... whoever you are, please... return me to my boring, uneventful life!
But deep down, I knew there was no going back.
