She's left me. My kitty Cat has left me. I can still see her running away down the street away from our spot, away from me. I feel a tear hit my cheek and I realise that I'm crying."Hey love, you okay?" A lady in her car asks me as she slows down.
Wiping my tears, I rise from the ground."Yeah" I sniff. "Yeah, I'm okay. I've just... lost something" I tell her and plaster a fake smile on so she can leave me alone.
I've lost my girl!!
"Oh! Well I hope you find it, love" she smiles and her windows go up.
"Thanks" I grimace as she drives away.
I walk home from the spot where my girl told me she was leaving me, what I thought was going to be one of the happiest days of my life ended up being one of the worst. I get home letting myself in and take my coat off. "Is that you, craig?" Mum asks. "Is Cat with you?" She asks happily as she comes from the living room with a giant smile on her face which dims once she sees my expression.
"Baby boy?" She says with a look of worry on her face. "What's wrong?" She asks.
And the dam breaks, I break down into full blown tears, my heart breaking all over again. "She broke up with me" I sob.
"What?" Mum gasps shaking her head as she wraps her arms around me. "No, she wouldn't do that, Craig. That girl loves you, any fool can see that" she says consoling me.
"She did, mum. I..I was offered a place at a football camp in USA—and I told her, she was so upset... I told her we could work things out, we could FaceTime and I could come home during the summer holidays and Christmas.. but she told me that it would be too hard, with the time difference and everything" I sob. "I thought she loved me, mum" I cry in her arms like a little pussy.
"Oh, you sweet sweet boy. Of course she loves you!! Don't you see? She was letting you go because she knows how much it means to you, she wouldn't of asked you to stay because she probably knew you'd end up regretting not going, plus she's going to be at university soon too, she's right about the time difference" mum says softly as she strokes my hair like she used to.
"I haven't even gone, and I miss her so much already mum, how am I meant to do this?" I ask her looking in her eyes.
Mum smiles sadly cupping my cheek with her hand. "You do what Catherine wanted you to do, what YOU wanted to achieve son, once you do that, you come back and get your girl!" She grins like it's the simplest thing.
"Are you crazy, mum? I can't expect her to wait for me" I tell her.
The actual thought of my girl with someone else guts me to the core.
Mum huffs rolling her eyes. "I swear to god, you Berkeley men. If you would just think craig, really think—not just with your head, but with your heart and soul, you'll know the answer" she smiles at me.
"Thanks, mum" I smile at her the first genuine smile I've done since Catherine left me and make my way up the stairs.
"Don't think you've got out of telling us about this camp business either, young man" mum shouts up after me.
"I know" I shout back getting my phone I text my girl.
