A/N- so I was gonna leave this as is, but I got comments saying to update. Personally it drives me nuts when a good oneshot isn't updated when I'm DYING for it to be a full fic so of course, I added to this. It'll be a short story, different from what I usually write but nonetheless I'm enjoying it. The chapters are a lot longer, 2500-3500 words (I usually only write about 1500-2000 per chapter) so it may take longer to update. However, I will continue to update this. Thanks so much for reading and commenting :) I hope you enjoy!

"Oh my God Cristina!" It was approximately an hour later, after talking to Addison and setting up a proper date, that the reality of the situation hit Meredith like a truck. She was unsure how to react, because as excited as she was, her stomach felt like it was going to jump out of her skin.

That would be an interesting surgery to watch.

Naturally, the second she finished talking to Addison she ran to find Cristina to freak out over it. And here Cristina was, sitting on an old hospital bed in the basement where all their friends were during breaks.

"What?" Cristina asked, in the same uninterested tone she always used when Meredith freaked out over mild issues. Cristina wasn't one to lose her cool, but her best friend was. And at this point, she knew Meredith well enough to know that any situation starting with 'Oh my God' wasn't anything fatal, catastrophic or overly pressing.

"I don't know if I had a stroke or if I've suddenly grown a brain tumour, but I asked her out! I actually did it! I can't believe this, I didn't think she'd say yes!" Meredith was all but flailing, eyes wild and face in a mask of pure horror. If anybody who didn't know Meredith saw her, they'd never have guessed she just got a date with possibly the most beautiful (in Meredith's firm opinion) woman in Seattle.

"Relax" Cristina shrugged "she said yes; if she said no then this would be a totally different freak out. This is good; she said yes. Where are you going?" Despite not being as over the top as Meredith sometimes was, Cristina still wanted to help her friend and also wanted to get every detail possible.

"We're going to dinner at this Italian place. I've never been to it" Meredith suddenly stopped and gasped as if she'd just seen a ghost "ohmigod I've never been to it! What if the food sucks? What if it isn't as nice as I heard it's supposed to be? I should've taken her somewhere I've been, at least then I'd know it wouldn't be a disaster!"

"Breathe" Cristina said, suddenly growing slightly worried. Meredith did overreact at times, but never this bad. It never looked like this, and Cristina knew her friend was really in for it. "If the food sucks then you'll drink the wine as talk anyway. Then, at the end of the date when she asks to go out again because she will" Cristina emphasized "you pick another place that has better food, alright?"

Meredith nodded dumbly, her face pale and her mind numb. "I've got to go, I'm supposed to be off in an hour anyway but I asked George to cover the last hour of my shift. I need to figure out what to wear; I've got a couple hours but I want to make sure I don't look like a total moron"

Cristina shook her head. Meredith was also oblivious to George's infatuation with her, but that was a story for another time. "Meredith it'll be fine. You know it will be, quit worrying. You'll give yourself a heart attack before the date even starts"

"Cristina" Meredith sighs, sitting down next to her friend and slumping against the wall. "Addison is different. She's beautiful and smart and she's..." Meredith trailed off.

"She's a woman?" Cristina asked questionably "because if that's the problem, then you really need to calm down. Everyone has their first, and a date with a woman is no different than with a man" Cristina, ironically, had experience with this particular area. She'd dated her fair share of women before she got accepted into med school. She'd been adventurous and wild before deciding to sober up, grow up, and starting cutting people open for a living.
