Damn it. I did it again. Ever since the Day the Sky Bled I can’t control myself. I’ve got this hunger for the hunt, this thirst for blood, this addiction for the hell that is the new world, and I hate it.  My problem isn’t some form of insanity… well I guess it could have evolved into that by now, but before it was just a side effect of my mutation.

Let me start from the beginning, from the Day the Sky Bled. No, the sky didn’t really bleed, but it was damn close. In the year 2026 the United States and China were at war. The war wasn’t waged in the countries themselves, it was waged in the countries of their allies: Britain, France, Italy, Japan, North Korea, Russia, and many others. The war was destroying the world, yet no one questioned it. On the 6th day of June, the war reached its peak, and the sky bled. The orbital Satellite Gong Jien dropped an experimental new nuclear bomb. It was a pre strata entrance explosive, meaning that it was designed to explode just before entering the stratosphere, however it detonated early, and the atomic gaseous chemical dispersed at a much greater rate than ever intended. This pre-detonation caused it to cover most of the world, or at least that is what we assume. We can’t be positive, but no other countries have tried to make contact, so that’s the hypothesis. The early detonation and increased dispersion also caused the affects to decrease. Instead of killing everyone, it mutated most, and was even ineffective on some.

The mutations varied greatly. Some are simple, super human speed or strength. Others got control over elements; fire, water, etc. There were others that got complex mutations, things like telepathy, or telekinesis. Some people could transform into monsters, or create nightmarish illusions.

At first, people tried to keep it together, they tried to stay organized, but when the Lost started to appear… the world went to hell all over again. The Lost were mutants, but they couldn’t handle it; the new world, their new power, it made them crazy. Mira Jane thinks that whatever the Chinese infected us with reacts with the loss of brain function and causes a new more radical mutation. The Lost are no more than animals, they kill and eat. Their bodies reshape, become deformed and grotesque.

It’s now been 3 years since that day; it feels longer, much longer. I was 13 when it first happened. I was out playing with some other kids when someone pointed at the sky and screamed. We all looked up to see a sort of red gas descending on us all, as it touched our skin we all broke out into screams, I still remember the pain… that pain the engulfed every inch of my being. I was young and weak, and the pain made me black out.
