dan usually spends his lunch break in a niche-in-the-wall coffee shop, and he doesn't say anything when phil clocks out for break and starts walking with him.

"how are you doing today?" phil asks. quietly. he looks like the kind of person who'd always have a lot to say, and loudly; however, dan has discovered that phil is actually very quiet.

there really was no point in lying to phil, was there?

"bad. really bad," dan saysin a low voice. "i'm on a ton of medication and you'd think that would help but i think it makes it worse. i'm scared, phil."

dan looks over to his right, and the black-haired boy has a sadness in his eyes that looks out-of-place.

i caused that

that was my fault

all i do is bring everyone else down

phil reaches for dan's hand, and dan lets him take it because what's the point of pretending you're alright when you obviously aren't?

so many of their interactions end with crying.
