Everyone has a necklace. The pendant glows brighter or dims depending on how much time you have left to live. Babies' necklaces will be as bright as possible without blinding the child or surrounding people, whereas dead peoples' necklaces won't be glowing at all. Protag's necklace suddenly gets very dim as they're about to go hang out with a friend.
