What if, instead of having one soulmate, we could have multiple? Like, maybe your soul splits in two after each lifetime you go through, so you and your original soulmate would still be soulmates but you would each gain a soulmate in your next reincarnation. Or maybe it was just that way from the start, but there's a more important piece of our soul that determines our "true"soulmate (the one we connect with most), so they become our best friend/lover and the others become regular friends, and we're drawn to them because we're technically also their soulmates. I just like the idea of having multiple "soulmates", since it shows how complicated relationships really are, I guess.
