Chapter 1 (last week of school): Backstabbing Best Friends

“Alright class, we have finals coming up in a few days. Don't forget to study. Class is dismissed.” As I gathered my stuff up to leave, I felt someone coming up from behind me. Nate. I gasp as he picks me up only sling me over his shoulder and carry me out of the classroom.

As he sauntered through the halls, oblivious to my pounding on his back and fits of laughter, we run on into Tye, my boyfriend, and Alice, my best friend, who immediately stop laughing when they see us.

Nate quickly puts me down and starts talking to Tye about the track meet last friday. I noticed Tye didn't even bother glancing at me, so I start talking to Alice about the bikinis they had on sale at Forever 21. I noticed that Alice was wearing Tye’s jacket and the jealousy started bubbling. Some best friend I have.

Nate and I continued walking towards the musical arts hallway, while he constantly poked me on the side. Typical, really. I looked back at them, secretly envying how much they got a long, how he flashed her his secret smile that I always thought was reserved for me, how they would casually bump into each other, how they'd throw their heads back laughing... It's like I have to share her with him.

Nate, sensing the tension, poked me in the stomach causing me to slap him and chase him down the hall.  "So do you have any plans this summer?" He asked flashing his green eyes at me.

"Besides sleeping all day? And going to my dads in a few weeks...but I'm free until then, if you wanted to hang," I replied with a smile.

"Mmmh. I'll think about it." he says with a wink.

Why was he just so darn cute? Those eyes make me want to melt! Back to reality here! You have a boyfriend and Nate is your friend. But Tye... I shut my eyes for  moment. It's not the same. I see his smiling face, those pearly whites...and those eyes. But everytime, I open my own eyes to the real world, it's not me that's looking up at him. It's Alice.  Sometimes I'm think I'm crazy for arguing with myself inside my head.

"Earth to Val!" Nate said as he waved his hands in front of my face with a look of concern on his face.

"Oh! Sorry I spaced out. But alright. I'll See you after class, Nate!" I yelled snapping back to reality and quickly headed for class.

"Val, wait..." He then ran over to me, and kissed me right on the lips.
