Breaking the Ice

     Travis parked the range rover in front of the diner and ran around the front to open my door.

"See, Tate, chivalry isn't dead." Travis' husky voice teased as he helped me out of the car. I rolled my eyes and followed him inside.

    All eyes were on Travis as we slid into an open booth and waited for a server.

"They're staring at you" I whispered behind my menu. His reached a hand and pulled the plastic from blocking my face.

"No they're staring at us" he smirked. I wish we were an us.

That thought made my stomach go in knots. The good knots though. I glanced over at Travis who was skimming the menu. His beautiful green orbs sparkling, even in this shitty diner lighting. I think he caught me staring cause his eyes flicked up at me and he flashed a smirk.

"Like what you see?" he teased.

"Y'know, you're a lot better when you don't talk." I retorted at him. He just chuckled and went back to his deciding.

The sound of heels clicking on the floor took Travis' attention from talking to me about his first dog, Maddie. Her blonde hair bounced as she took a step. She looked flawless, a genuine pearly white smile rested on her red lips. Gray eyes locked into Travis' I assume and the smile wiped right off her face.
She stopped at our booth. My heart sank into my ass. Her skin was actually glowing like not because of her popping ass highlight, but because she was genuinely stunning.
"Uh hey Travis. I haven't seen in a while. How's your mom and your sister?" Her soft voice asked nicely. He looked at me and then back to her. Like he was comparing us to see which one looked better. I should've known.

So I spoke up,
"Travis I just remembered I promised Sebastian I would help him with his history midterm. I gotta go" I mumbled and avoided those green eyes before I stood up at rapid speed and clicked on Cassie's contact.

A certain part of me expected him to run after me and tell me she was just an old puck bunny that took him by surprise. But sadly he never did. Obviously she wasn't just some random girl if she knew his mom and his sister. I just met travis a couple weeks ago and I'm already getting whiplash from all these different girls.

"Hey tate. Feel like I haven't talked to you in awhile" she joked and I just sighed.

"What's up hon? You sound down."

"Can you pick me up at the diner. Ill tell you the whole story when you pick me up." I told her and she said something quietly to someone else in the room.

"Can I bring Cam?"

"Of course."

"Okay we'll be there in five. Hang tight." She said finally before I heard the ending call tone.

I sighed and looked inside the massive diner windows. Travis and the pretty blonde were chatting it up. She reached across the table for his hand and I turned away.

I sat down on the curb and waited for Cam and Cassie to get here. And it felt like hours until the lighting fast bmw whipped into the parking space in front of me. Cameron jumped out of the car to open my door for me. He gave me a solemn smile but his eyes drifted to the scene inside. He cringed and waved me to go in the car. Cassie was doing the same thing. I shuffled inside and was cooled down by the nice ac.

I mumbled a "hey" and Cassie winked at me in her mirror. The second Cameron got in the car he started explaining.

"So Tate you're probably wondering, who is she? Why did she just kiss travis? Why did she-"

I cut him off, "they kissed?" I whispered. Cassie groaned. I felt tears prick at my eyes.

"I swear to god i knew he'd do some stupid shit like this he's such a fucking piece of shit. I told him to leave you alone and here he goes just being a man whore per usual." Cassie ranted on until Cam put his hand on hers and gave it a squeeze and she let out a breath of air.

"I didn't even like him that much. I mean sure he has gorgeous sparkling eyes and a perfect smile and has the best personality from a guy i've ever experienced.
And the way he makes me feel and yeah I never liked him that much" I grumbled. Cameron laughed a little. Of course I liked Travis. He's perfect besides the fact that he has an endless string of girls attached to him.

"Look Tate. Travis has had one real girlfriend his entire life. His high school sweetheart, Jazmine. That was her clearly. They met when they were freshman and fell in love by sophomore year and they were pretty inseparable. But Jazmine had a little secret she was hiding from my buddy Travis. She cheated on him all throughout their junior year and into senior year. He opened a text from her 'mom' on his phone and it ended up being a guy on the football team wondering if they were on to hookup later that night. But he confronted her and she said she wouldn't do it again, Travis was so in love with her he forgave her but once a cheater always a cheater. She cheated on him again. So that's that." He blurted out. My mind went at ease.

"I wish he could've told me to stay and explain. But I guess I did kinda jump away." I sighed. As Cassie drove up to our street I just stared out at the trees passing by. I missed California, surprisingly.

"I wanna go back to California" I stated. Cassie slammed the brakes on and my head almost slammed into the passenger seat.

"Over one stupid boy Tate?! No! I am not losing my best friend to an idiot like Travis, no offense Cam" she shouted.

"Look I have an offer for you," Cam said shortly "I have a lot of single, nice guys living in my frat and usually you might be turned away from the word frat but these guys are my brothers and they'd treat you right." He finished. I pondered for a second. All I could think about was Travis' warm smile but he was with someone else. That's that.

"Text one of them to meet up for drinks at Nox?" I asked and I saw his head nod as he took out his phone.

I thanked Cassie and Cam for the ride and Cam texted me the information on my blind date with his frat brother and I started to get ready since it was four. It takes me like two hours to pick out a simple outfit so this one would take a while. I texted Sebastian to get over here to help me and to fill him in.
