I lay in the cold, muddy dirt by the lake. Shadowy figures blocked my view. I watched as they tore into my body, scratching and clawing. I could've called out.
But I didn't.
I could've fought back
But I didn't.
I could've done anything
But I lay perfectly still.

I thought about my book, laying opened on the dock. I thought about the streak of blood leading to wear I lay. I thought about what 6 year old me was going to do about the upcoming project in Social Studies. I thought about if I'd even live to turn it in.

I hear a hiss as the shadowy figures part and a new one walks into a view. It's a mountain lion. I see its eyes, a beautiful rich purply blue. It smells my face, it purred quietly. Before I was left in darkness, the only thing in my mind was those eyes.
