Authors Note: By the way, the last chapter was of LAST summer so she was 10 when he saw her and she is 11 NOW. I know, I know, confusing ages are confusing.

That Fall...

I sat in Mr. Berew's class for what felt like forever, slowly watching the hand move around the clock. I looked down at my paper, it should be full of notes however mine was covered in little drawings. Drawings of eyes, of mountain lions, of cats, of dogs, of people. Drawings of everything that popped into my mind. I breathed a sigh of relieve as I heard the satisfying ring of the old bell, meaning that it was time to go home.

I picked up my stuff and headed out into the hallway which was already full of people. It was a sea of black and the usual screaming and shouting of middle school was gone. Everyone was mourning the death of Scott Traufmen. Everyone but me.

Yes I wore black but that was my normal attire. I didn't feel that it was right to be mourning for a bully that practically tortured half the people at school, including me. It was no surprise that he was a bully, he was practically made for the role. Rich family? Check. Brute? Check. A face like a troll? Check. The only thing that made him not a bully was that he wasn't an only child. He had a sister named Cynthia who I had never meant (but made a mental note to avoid). I was sick and tried of hearing about Scott. All anyone ever talked about was Scott and his death. I mostly hated it because of the way Scott died. He was attacked by mountain lions, and knowing that they only attack once a year and their attacks are hardly ever fatal, something was up.

I walked over to my locker and twisted the dial on the old lock. My mother had INSISTED that I use the lock she had in middle school (because apparently she kept hers) and because of that I was left with this crummy old lock that never works. I tried to open the lock but it was jammed.. of course. I set my books and papers down on the floor and tried again, but it still wouldn't budge. I looked around and saw that most people were on the buses already so I used both of my hands and pulled as hard as I possibly could. The lock broke away with a sickening crack  before causing my locker to fly open and me to fly to the floor.

I slowly got up and looked at my hands which had gotten a rug burn on the floors of the school. I picked up my books and put the ones I didn't need in my locker and the ones I did need in my backpack. I carefully closed my locker and pulled some duct tape out of my backpack (I always carried it with me because I was constantly breaking things). I put some duct tape on my locker, put on my backpack and did one final look at my locker before heading out the front doors of school.

Thankfully I didn't ride the bus, so I hopped on my bike and starting riding to library. My favorite place on earth.
