Dad (NALU)

Special request from a friend, I promise I'll do another reader oneshot

The guild was as noisy and lively as it always was, but behind that sense, there held this sort of familiarity in her eyes. She chuckles softly, of course it had! This guild had been her family since she ran from home. Her smile slips, a home... Seven years had passed, a long seven years for the remaining members of Fairy Tail. She had to admit, much had changed since then, but what seemed to hit her was her father's death. It seemed so sudden and yet, at first, she couldn't find the strength to cry. She told herself it wasn't her fault, that he should have tried harder to be that father before passing, but she knew that was a selfish remark. They were human, and human's made mistakes from time to time, even mistakes that lasted even after they passed.

"Ok, Lucy, are you alright?"

She looks up from the table, chuckling at herself as she seemed to have been staring quiet intently at the table in front of her. "Yeah, just thinking about my dad," she admits, sadly.

"I'm sorry, Lucy," Natsu says. "But hey! At least you have Fairy Tail," He says with his trademark grin. She wouldn't admit it out loud, especially to Mira, but that grin made her falter, stumble, and even melt. She blushes softly. "Hey, are you sure you're fine?" He asks, obliviously. "Your face is looking red, flushed even,  are you coming down with a fever?" He rambles as he places the back of his hand against her forehead. 

She blushes harder and scrambles away, "Natsu!"

He looks at her, confused, "What? I'm just worried about your well being, Lucy."

At this point the whole guild's attention was directed towards them, some were smirking, others were smiling broadly. Her deep brown hues widened, had they known? "Hey, Flame Breath! Give Lucy some space. You're making her feel uncomfortable," Gray says as he strides over.

"If anyone's making her uncomfortable, it's you, Stripper!" Natsu yells as he points at Gray's barely covered body.

"You've got to be kidding me," he says as he looks around, hastily.

Lucy looks at them annoyed, "More like agitated!" She retorts as she crosses her arms over her chest.

Erza helps her stand to her feet, "You both should be kind to your teammate, Lucy. And you two better get along, not another insult!"

"I think we should allow Lucy to express herself," Mira says from the counter, a wicked smile crawling onto her features. "There must be a reason why Lucy is feeling under the weather," she reasons.

"More like snappier," Happy murmurs.

"I heard that cat!" Lucy yells. She sends a look towards Mira before glancing st the guild, a frown etched onto her features. Their encouraging smiles made her sigh and say, "I miss my dad. I wish I could have spent more time with him. I wish I could have fixed our relationship. That's all."

"Is that really it, Lucy?" Erza asks, frowning. "You know, you have Fairy Tail as your family, too."

"I know, it's just... I wish things could have been different."

"What else?" Erza beckons.

She glances at Natsu, they'd been through thick and thin together. He was always there for her, her rock. They seemed like really close friends to some people, but it would definitely be a lie if she said she hadn't even thought about being anything more with the Dragon Slayer. She growls softly, "I like Natsu!" She blurts. 

Natsu looks at her, smiling, "Oh, I like you, too, Lucy!"

Lucy frowns, "You... you don't understand, do you?"

Natsu cocks his head to the side,  curiosity wahsing over his features, "What do you mean, Lucy? Of course I like you! I like our family and because you're a part of it, it's only right if I appreciate you like everyone else," he rambles.

She shakes her head, her blonde locks shaking from side to side as she stared at him in disbelief, "How could you be so oblivious?" She whispers, harshly. "How can you not... see...." She turns away from the guild, her hands fisted by her sides, "I'll see you all tomorrow," she proclaims as she exits the guild. 

As she had, sadly, expected, Natsu did not come running after her like a prince would a princess. Knowing him he was probably standing there trying to process what had just happened while everyone scolded him and told him, annoyed, how she really felt and what the purpose of her saying that was. 

Her frown deepens and she kicks a rock as she walks down the remote streets of Magnolia. She sighs, "What was I thinking? That Natsu would like me back? That he'd understand?" She laughs, almost bitterly. "How stupid."

Her blonde hair was sprawled all over her pillow, her brown hues were shielded because of her eye lids, but she felt especially warm. It wasn't Summer, it was actually Spring, closing in on Summer, but Magnolia wasn't hot during this time, so why did she...? Her eyes snap open and she falls out of bed, awakening the person who had been next to her. Her eyes are wide and her breathing is fast, "Natsu? What the heck?" She yells.

"Sorry Lucy," Natsu says, rubbing the back of his neck, sheepishly. She folds her arms over her chest after standing up. She looks down at him, staring him down as he was sitting down on her bed. She was a bit surprised not to see Happy with him. "The guild spoke with me and well... now I understand what you meant." His expression grew serious, "Which is why I came to tell you that I like you too!" His smile returned, the award winning, heart warming smile she always felt her heart flutter when he sent it her way. 

She smiles softly, "That's good Natsu... but why were you in my bed?" She asks, her eyes narrowing into slits. "You basically slept with me!" She screams. 

He pulls her close and lands his lips on hers, he pulls away, smiling cheekily, "Bye, Lucy! I'll see you at the guild!" He says, gleefully, as he hops out the window, Happy diving down (was that a camera in his hands?) and catching him. 

She blushes before yelling, "That doesn't make up for what you did!" She sighs, smiling softly as she shook her head. "Oh, Natsu... what am I going to do with you?"
