John's eyes stung with tears. The pain, with the menacing pain from his heart, combines to give him grief, far beyond the norm. "Annie!" He cried, through a sob. "Annie!" He screamed this time. His head turned to two young children. "Mom, where is dad? He's meant to be here by now," said the girl

"Kerry! Oh God KERRY! Ryan. Please. Oh God! Please!" He cried, nearly on his knees. "Why can't they hear me?" he cried to the pale figures to his right. 

"Because they're not real" explained on of the figures.

"Take them back. TAKE THEM BACK!" he demanded, voice full of hatred.

The war. World War 2. A terrible war. Hitler. Nazis. Germany. So many names. 1939. 1945. 1944. So many dates. 1944? Was that significant? I think so. But why? Why was 1944 so special? Or un-special? Oh, my God! That's why. I got shot. I feel no pain. Why do I not feel any pain? How long have I Been asleep? What year was it? What day? What hour? Who am I? What's my name? How old am I? Where do I come from? Danke. Was that even a place? Was that a word? Yes. It was a word. What did it mean? Thank you. Yes. It means Thank you in German. Why German? Why did I have German language in my head? World War 2. Yes, World War 2. Hitler, Germany. That's why.
