What is red? Is it simply a colour? Or is it more? Is it lust, love, death perhaps? Or is it just the colour of that common liquid which runs through our veins? If I told you I was gushing red, would you think that I was in love or rather, would you believe I was dying? Red is the colour of roses, lips, love and hearts. Or maybe you think of red as the colour of blood, or the representation of blood and loss? Red is more than a colour, it is a feeling and the means to an end. Black is not nearly as universal as red. Black is used as a symbol for death, for the devil, for pain, loss and darkness. However, nowhere is it ever a symbol of hope or longevity, not even a sign for life or safety. It is used to describe a dying or dead thing. A black heart has no hope of rescuing or saving.
You could argue these colours and emotions come hand in hand. After all, love can often turn to loss and become someone's end. Ask yourself, is love an escape from all the horrors life has to offer or is it merely a distraction, there to distract us from the inevitable? Some say heartbreak is inevitable. It cant be stopped or avoided. In such a case, would love then become meaningless or would it be a memorable past, something that has shaped you and made you stronger? Or does something so strong become one's undoing and end up destroying them?
Everyone has an opinion, if you ask me, I would tell you that love or lust is the exact same as death and loss. Both are bound to leave you in pain and wishing you'd done things different. Though I say this, I can also tell you that my opinion is not as certain as God's. It is just simply my opinion. Do I believe in love? That's a hard question to answer. When you've seen what I've seen and felt what I've felt, its hard to argue that such a thing as love isn't...well...complicated. Of course, I love my brother more than anything, that's obvious but romantic love for someone? It's hard to come across someone to share that with and you'll understand once I tell you the position I'm in. I do believe however that love is not something I'd ever want. It seems too painful and almost pointless.
For us, our world was nothing like yours. In our world, we had accepted vampires into our community. I know, doesn't sound like a good idea for humans to be mixed with vampires especially when we are their food...but to the government it sounded like a good idea at the time. However, by the Vampire King's devious rule, they invited zombies into our society. W believed we could live in harmony with the vampires but they brought upon our impending doom. They enforced on us unfair laws and brought in the zombie beasts. What was left of the humans with power; Governments, politicians, the Queen, they all became useless against these creatures of immense power. It all seemed so hopeless. When it came down to it, the vampires could live with zombies freely roaming the streets and we weak humans couldn't and ended up becoming food for both parties. What once seemed like a way to bring a new peace between creatures quickly became our suicide. We trusted the vampires and they BETRAYED us, played us and left us to fend for ourselves against brain-hungry monsters.
The zombies quickly learned how to pick us out in hordes and almost overnight, the humans halved in population. They formed raids, began to attack simple human families in packs of up to twenty, sometimes even more. Imagine sitting at home, enjoying a lovely homemade meal with your parents and sibling and watching, terrified and frozen out of fear as twenty dead beings bashed down your door and slaughtered your entire family before your eyes before finally killing you along with them. Now, the entire city is black, filled with walking dead creatures and blood-sucking traitors...and close to no humans. Any remaining humans after the first week of the zombies being welcomed, were either picked off and killed from the raids or those who were smart, left the city, leaving the weak ones to perish and die.
Unlike the vampires who were elegant looking, wealthy and very intelligent, the zombies were anything but. They had lost most of their knowledge, remembering nothing of their human lives and their ability to determine right from wrong was like determining two different species of ants to a preschooler, it wasn't going to happen. If you were unlucky enough to ever bump into one of these unintelligent creatures, you either ran your ass off or you died. There was no happy medium. They may have been idiotic creatures and nowhere near as fast as the vampires, but their lack of brains made them hunger for ours.
