He leant in closer to me and I retracted a bit. I was getting to trust him more and more with every minute that passed but who wouldn't get away from a vampire if they lean in close like that after having their diet questioned? I never understood how girls ny age used to be obsessed with these 'perfect' vampires even before we humans knew they actually existed. The love stories and movies about them were sappy. In no way were vampires actually like that. Beautiful on the outside maybe but they weren't some glittering, special beings. They needed human blood because they were DEAD. The blood of the living is warm and keeps us alive. Its the very essence of human life. What happens if vampires dont get our blood? They dont die, theyre immortal but their bones grow brittle, their dead features catch up with them and they are completely immobilized until they get more blood. That was just the way things were. I accepted that once upon a time they were human with their own human families and had real emotions and fears. But once dead, always dead...right? There was nothing I knew of that could cure a person of vampirism because vampires are what come after death. There's no cure for death, therefore no cure for vampirism or zombification.

"I would NEVER harm a human. I get my blood from hospital bags, not directly from humans. Most vampires in the high court tend to do that, it's unsightly to kill a human on grounds so-"

"Wait, wait, wait. You're a member of the high court?" I asked, my eyes wide with shock.

He looked so young, even though he was a vampire, surely he couldn't be a part of the high court. Vampires in the court and vampires with positions of power over society had to be at least two thousand years old, though most were older than that. As far as us humans could recall the vampire high court had always been around since the very first humans were around. They were the ones that ruled and enforced laws in the name of the King. With the way he talked about his past life, he made it seem like he had only been a vampire for a couple of years, though I knew a vampire with his amount of control had to be at least a few centuries old but still he looked way too young for even that. Granted, I was basing this on physical appearance and all vampires' physical apprarances seemed enchanting and neveraging. Yet it just didn't sit well with me that he could be thousands of years old. It made him seem a whole lot more creepy than before. If he had turned into a vampire just before the revolution started then I might have been more okay with that but now thinking about it, if he was thousands of years old then that makes being the bodyguard of an eight and thirteen year old even more creepy.

"I am. I'm the King's physician." He stated plainly.

My jaw dropped. HE was the King's physician? Let me explain something, there are four roles of power that stands at the top of the High Court. The position with the least amount of authority was the court guards, then the judge, then the physician then the King himself. The King's physician was allowed into anywhere in the entire world and acted as a personal doctor to the great, almighty and terrible King. If the King really did exist and wasn't a rumour, then Henry here was one of the only few people who actually knew, talked to and regularly saw him. This both amazed and scared me. Someone of such high stature was helping two humans? Or rather, two human children. My heart stopped and I had to take a deep breath in to process it all. I couldn't believe it. Henry was the second most powerful being on the entire planet! Any other human would have knelt down at his feet and kissed them in sparkling hopes of him sparing their lives or even just as a way of somehow meeting the King. Though I just sat there gawking with my mouth opened like some weird statue. He laughed softly and watched with a big grin on his face like a child.
