Y/N POV
I searched the castle for my best friend Tom, who I may have a slight crush on. Yeah, I've been friend zoned in the worse way.

I walk into the Slytherin common room and look around. I see a familiar mop of brown hair sitting by the fireplace so I make my way over there and sit down next to him. He doesn't notice as he's reading, like always "Whatcha got there?" I ask, making him jump slightly and look up.

"Hello Y/N" his smooth voice greets me "Hey Tom, whatcha reading?" I ask, he hurriedly puts the book away after marking his page "Nothing to worry about. Just a textbook."  But it must be important if he put it away so fast "What's it about?" He shook his head "Don't worry" he told me again. So I didn't.

I walked into potions with Tom, he had the same book in his arms that he was reading last night, and he STILL won't let me see it. So when he goes up to smell the love potion-whatever I look into his folder and see the book, on horcruxes.

I quickly slip it into my folder before he makes his way back. Everyone looking at him then me. Oblivious I shrug it off and the lesson continues.

Back in the common room and Tom's freaking out "What's wrong?" I ask as I take a seat in front of the distressed boy "I lost my book, you know, the one I was reading yesterday?" I smile and use his words against him "It's just a textbook. I'm sure Madam Prince would have a charm on it to bring it back and an-" "YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND!" He stormed out, maybe going to look for it.

I took it out of my bag and began to read up to his bookmark.

He sat down next to me in the great Hall at breakfast the next morning "Did you find it?" I innocently asked him, to which he shook his head "No" "Is it that important to you?" He nodded "yeah, I need it so I can....finish an essay...yeah" "okay. I'll see if I can find it" I say, like any good friend would.

Tom walked in and plopped next to me "Why Tom?" I ask, looking at the fireplace. He turned and looked at me questionally "Why would you even think about killing someone, splitting your freaking soul just so you don't die?!" He looks at me shocked as I pull the book out. He snatches it away and looks at me "you wouldn't understand"

It's been three weeks since that happened and it's not really been the same since. We don't really talk much either.

This evening Tom randomly leaves through conversation he'd having with Malfoy and runs out. I excuse myself from my conversation and leave to follow him.

I stick by the castle walls and into the shadows, following him further into the dungeons.

He walks into a dark room where a man is sitting, tied up and gagged. He looked around middle aged and was wearing muggle clothes. He looked a lot like Tom.

I was so occupied with studying the person I didn't hear their conversation. Well one sided conversation, with Tom doing all the talking.

Suddenly he placed a locket down next to the man md raised his wand. I had to act "TOM NO!" I jump out from the shadows and stand in between him and the strange man "Y/N GET OUT!" He screamed at me, pushing me away "No" I attempted to stay as still as I could, but Tom was still stronger.

"TOM STOP! What is the point? There are other ways." I tried to reason with him.

I thought I hadn't done when he raised it once more, until I heard a cling on the cold, stone floor. He dropped his wand.

I set the muggle free and Tom wiped his memory, sending him home again.

Tom had finally let me in, he opened the locked door and allowed me to help him become a better person.
