I woke up to the sound of my phone vibrating under my pillow. Grumbling, I look at the screen with one eye opened and find 6 messages from each person in the group.

Salome: hey girl, starting off now. Have an awesome holiday!

Emma: what’s up, mind if I come over tomorrow to chill? Home is so boring :/

Trey: any ideas on what to get Livvie for our anniversary? Only thought of white roses and a candle lit dinner.

Cece: would it be too cruel to prank Emily while she sleeps??

Livvie: I’m so nervous about tonight, what should I wear?

Chris: dude whatever you do, DON’T give Cece any ideas on pranks. Have a nice holiday J

After managing to reply to all of their replies, I check the time and find out its 10:30. I wake up just in time to hear my mom yell out I’ve got to be ready before she gets back from the airport. Since the airport is 30 minutes away, I get my room fixed up really nicely and take a relaxing bath before cleaning it as well. My cousin will be staying in my room for the meantime so have to make an impression even though she’s only 6.

I take my time going down the steps as I hear the car park next to the garage. Mike is already waiting in the living room along with Charlie who’s wagging his tail excitedly. Mike walks out to help my uncle Paul with the luggage while I greet Aunt Meg and Amie. They’re here for the entire weekend and we’re all so happy to see them since we’re close. Mom is making a fuss over Aunt Meg with her pregnancy bump. Even though this is her second time being pregnant, my aunt glows in the attention she gets and seems to look forward to expanding her family.

We got everyone comfortable and the adults chatted easily while we kept Amie busy playing outside with Charlie and most of her toys. Amie is the sweetest 6 year old I’ve ever met. She has a caramel complexion and hazel eyes mixed with specs of green since Uncle Paul had green eyes. She is small for her age with long brown hair and dimpled cheeks. She followed me around most of the day while Charlie followed her which I found cute and gladly let her follow me since I had nothing else to focus on.

By 4 o’clock the adults were still talking about life, kids, work and of course Aunt Meg’s pregnancy. She couldn’t stay still for more than 30 minutes and had a craving for almost anything and everything combined. Luckily Uncle Paul bought all her favourite snacks along the way so she was fine for the next 3 days. Amie was having a nap on her bed while I had some headphones on and checking up on my crew.

Salome was letting me know she there safely and is flirting with the dude her age so she couldn’t text for long. The twins are at the camping site but ditched it for a nearby coffee shop with free net, typical of them I think to myself. Livvie just started getting ready for her date tonight with Trey, exaggerating that she found the ‘perfect’ outfit to wear while Trey claims he’s found the perfect gift to give her during dessert. Emma on the other hand is just as chilled and bored as I am, listening to music in her room. I get up and make my way to the kitchen to make some cheese and crackers for Amie before waking her up. I’m right at the door when I hear my parents arguing about dad not being around when aunt and uncle got here. Once they see me at the door, they stop arguing and go their separate ways before I can question them.

Trying to brush it off, I start making the snack and finish right on cue as a hungry child comes into the kitchen in mike’s hands. “Found her walking through the hallway looking lost” he says with a grin. I laugh softly and settle her down while Mike hands her some apple juice before letting me know he’s off to chill with friends for the rest of the night. I stay with Amie for the rest of the day and leave her in bed bathed and full after dinner. I let the grown-ups clean up and decide to go to bed earlier.

The next day I’m woken up to little fingers combing my hair and a warm tongue licking my toes. I wake up and find Amie looking at me with the funniest expression. “What’s up kid?” I mumble through my sleepy haze. “You have pretty hair but it’s naughty at night.” confused I sit up and ask her what she means while I stretch my back. “It’s up in every direction”. I just laugh and tell her it does that every morning. We get ready for breakfast and make it down just in time to see Aunt Meg finish a stake of pancakes mixed with honey and lemon juice. There are already 3 empty plates in front of her and she starts digging into a big bowl of chocolate flavoured cereal with condensed milk. After Ami hugs my mom and her dad she turns to her mom and says “Mommy, are you trying to get the baby fat again?. Everyone laughs and Aunt Meg tells her she’s keeping the food for the baby so he comes out healthy.

Breakfast is a comical event full of silly questions being asked by Amie while the adults try to answer all of her questions. I take a quick shower and watch TV with Amie while I wait for Emma to come over. She comes in time to help us fix dinner and she falls in love with Amie the moment she sees her. After a few failed attempts of trying to befriend the suddenly shy girl, Amie got up the courage to accept Emma’s constant plea to combing her hair and painting her nails. 3 hours later and Amie is excitedly showing off her new pedicure of pink nail polish with white hearts and sparkles while Emma and I are adoring our own new pedicures.

“Oh my gosh, she’s the CUTEST!” Emma says. I laugh at her and shake my head, “If you love her so much then take her, I think she’ll be able to fit in your bag.” I mock her while I flip through her music like I usually do when she’s around. We talk about random stuff and at 6 o’clock she heads home. I escort her to her car along with Amie who is sad to see her new friend go. We all hug each other goodbye and she drives off, promising to see me at school tomorrow. We go back inside the house to prepare for the night and two hours later I’m fast asleep.
