Chapter 6

Just  a Close Friend

Michael’s Point of View

Sigh. She’s leaving. I know I sound selfish but I can’t lose her again. I know I’m being irrational because in the first place I’m the one who left her. Leaving her to chase my dreams is so hard because she is also one of my dreams, I’ve reached my dreams already but now I think it’s time to fulfil my last and remaining dream. I need to tell her how I feel, but how? I’m not really brave hearted when it comes to these kind of things. Plus, maybe she only thinks of me as her best friend. My thoughts were interrupted as my mom called me.

“Michael! Can you come down here for a second?”

“Yes mom!” I answered back as I hurried downstairs.

“Michael!” I heard a familiar sweet voice.

“Katie?” I said as she hugged me. Katie is a close friend of mine in high school. We were pretty close, I had a teeny tiny crush on her back then but it’s all in the past, I now consider her nothing but a great friend.

“How are you? Wow you look different!”

“Different in a good way, I mean” She added, blushing?

“Uhhh.. Thanks. Well I’m fine, still the same.” I replied laughing.

“And you’re taller!” She exclaimed.

“I’ve always been taller than you!” I teased while patting her head.

“So are you doing anything today? I was thinking maybe we could hang out, watch movies maybe?” She asked shyly.

“Sure! I’d love to! I miss watching horror movies with you, you’re quite funny.” I replied laughing.

“Ugh you’re really still the same, always making fun of me.” She pouted.

“Oh come on I was only kidding.” I said pinching her cheeks.

She smiled and nodded.

“I’ll just ask mom if we could, wait for me here okay?” I said but quickly interrupted by mom

“Oh go ahead Michael, I know how much you miss your friend. But be careful!”

“ Will do, thanks mom!” I said as I kissed her cheek and prepared.

“Let’s go?”

“Yeah , sure.”

We arrived at the mall and went to the cinema, I spotted a familiar figure and recognized that it was Clary. What is she doing here? Who’s with her? Before I could even process my mind she already saw me and walked up to me.

“Fancy seeing you here Michael! Who’s with you-’’ Before she could even ask me a question Katie interrupted us and I can see the sudden change in Clary’s mood. Was it jealousy?

“ Michael I found the movie that we’re gonna watch.”

“Oh hello there. Are you Michael’s fan? I’m sorry but we’re having our bonding time right now so if you’ll excuse us.” Katie said tugging my jacket. I was a bit stunned when she said that.

“Well I’m sorry to interrupt you guys but, I must say I’m not only Michael’s fan but also his best friend.”  Clary replied, I could see that she was furious.

“Uhhh well, why don’t we watch the movie together?” I said breaking the tension.

“Oh it’s fine, wouldn’t want to interrupt your date, I’ll go ahead.” Clary said with a cold voice and started walking away. I tried to go after her but Katie grabbed my arm, stopping me.

“Why don’t we just enjoy this day for ourselves huh?” Katie said and I just simply nodded.

While watching the movie I couldn’t help but ponder over what had just happened awhile ago, was Clary jealous? I really need to tell her the truth, but when? My days are running out too. I never expected that Katie would do that, she’s such a nice and sweet girl, well maybe a lot of things has changed, I was just shocked. I suddenly felt her head rest on my shoulder. No matter what and whoever I’m with, Clary is the only one on my mind. I hope she's not mad at me nor at Katie.

After the movie was finished, Katie and I found some place to eat, we chatted and caught up with each other’s lives until we finally decided to go home.  My mom went to fetch us and the car ride to Katie’s house was silent and awkward especially that mom is there.

“So how’s your date?” I was startled by my mom’s question and immediately said.

“Mom, it wasn’t a date, we just hung out because I haven’t seen her for a long time”

“Uhhh yeah aunt Theresa, it’s not a date.” Katie added.

“Oh alright, sorry.” Mom replied.

“Here we are!” Mom said as she got out of the car. I followed as well in order to properly say goodbye.

“Thank you so much aunt Theresa! And to you too Michael, I had fun.” Katie said with her usual sweet voice as she hugged me, wow what a sudden mood change.

“No problem Katie.” I replied and hugged her back.

“Goodbye Katie, send regards to your mom from me.” Mom said.

“Yes aunt Theresa, good night.” She said as she went inside her house.

“Let’s go son.” Mom said as she went back inside the car.

I followed her and sat in the passenger’s seat. I quickly grabbed my phone from my pocket to check a few messages and remembered that I got Clary’s number. Maybe I should tell her now? No. It would be inappropriate to tell her by text message but my fingers stumbled over the screen and typed She was just a close friend.” And pressed the send button. The screen indicated that the message was sent. What did I do? I instantly regretted that I sent that message but that was all I could tell her right now.

Author's Note

Wew! So that was chapter 6 and I know it's short as always, sorry if I haven't updated for a long time. I just had a few things going on and a humongous writer's block. I'm seriously running out of ideas and I apologize for that. Anyway, what do you think of Katie? I know she's a bipolar b*tch (sorry for that vulgar word). I'll try to update faster. Thank you and don't forget to vote and comment!
