Chapter 2

The Dinner

 Clary's Point of View

There was an awkward silence between us and we just looked each other in the eye.

Come on Michael! Say something to me!

Until Aunt Theresa broke the silence.

Oh my! Is this Clary? You’ve grown into a beautiful young woman.” Aunt Theresa complimented.

“Thank you Theresa. I see Michael grew as a young handsome man too.” My mom replied for me.

Whoa Michael’s really handsome and tall. Wait.. What am I saying? Well it’s true. It’s like puberty hit him like a bus and here I am, still looking like a potato.

“Why don’t you two catch up while me and Theresa will go to the kitchen and prepare the food. We’ll just call you when it’s time.” Mom said.

“Okay mom.” I replied. This is totally awkward.

“Hey.” I heard him say.

“Uhmm hi.” I replied shyly as I sit in the sofa.

“So... It’s been a long time. How are you Clary?”

A shiver went through my spine as he said my name. Gosh his voice.

“Oh I’m fine, still the same as before. How about you? Congratulations by the way, for making it in the top 24 in the Winter Olympics. You were really great.”

“Thank you. And you look err… beautiful in that dress, I thought you hate them?” He said.

I blushed. He complimented me!

I do hate them, my mom forced me to wear it. I’m still the same old Clary who hates girly stuff, don’t worry.” I said as I punched him in his arm.

He chuckled. Finally my best friend is back!

Kids! It’s dinner time!” Mom shouted.

Okay mom! Coming!” I replied.

“Come on!” Michael said as he put his arm around my shoulder and together we entered the kitchen.

Dinner passed by and I admit, it was good. Not the food but me and Michael just talked and talked. I’m relieved that he’s still the same old Michael.

Unfortunately, he’ll be staying here in the Philippines for four days only and he needs to go back in California to practice for his upcoming competition in Sofia, Bulgaria. I wish him luck though, it’s good to be finally reunited with him.

Mrs. Alvarez, thank you so much for the dinner. The food was really good.” Michael said.

You’re welcome Michael and I’m happy that you like my cooking.” Mom replied with a wink.

And by the way, just call me Aunt Marissa. Mrs. Alvarez is too formal. Plus it’s not like we just met.” Mom added.

Okay Mrs..- I mean Aunt Marissa.” Michael agreed.

Marissa, thank you again for inviting us. I hope this is not the last dinner we’ll have.” Aunt Theresa said with a smile.

Oh of course Theresa, you and Michael are very welcome. Let’s go outside?”

Mom and Aunt Theresa went outside, while me and Michael stayed behind for a little goodbye.

So, I guess this is a goodbye huh?” I said.

As soon as those words escaped my mouth, I felt arms wrapped around me and realized that Michael is hugging me. I hugged back of course; I’ve been waiting for this.

This isn’t goodbye yet. Remember I’ll be staying here for four days? We can still see each other.” He mumbled whilst burying his head on my neck. Oh how I miss his hugs.

Okay. But whatever happens, don’t forget me okay?”

“Never. ’’ He replied as we broke apart.

I suddenly felt sad even though he said he won’t forget me, he will still be busy and he’ll go back in California and probably live there forever because of his career. I’m still happy for him though, he lives his dream so I shouldn’t be selfish and let him go. My thoughts were interrupted as he spoke.

Can I have your phone?” He said.

Oh sure.” I said as I handed him my phone then he typed something.

I saved my temporary phone number here. Call me okay?”

“Okay.” I replied sadly.

“Michael it’s time to go!” Aunt Theresa called outside.

Coming mom!” Michael called back.

Michael went outside and I followed him. We once again exchanged our goodbyes and hugged each other.

As soon as we said our goodbyes to each other, Michael and Aunt Theresa walked to their car and started driving away with Michael sticking his head out in the window waving. Oh that weird kid. Wait. That’s me lol.

I sighed and went inside.

Mom and I started cleaning up the mess in silence and me being a good daughter washed the dishes. After that I went upstairs to start cleaning up myself. But I stopped to my tracks as mom called me.

.

.

Clary. We need to talk.”
