Not the full chapter- just a happy teaser gift for you all!!!!!
The air was dank and thick as if it was just as old as the master who owned every nook and cranny of this dark and frightening castle; who owned every painting that watched her with cold, dead, unblinking eyes that followed her like a spell as she crept through the halls like an unwanted ghost.
Sarah had lost feeling in her toes what felt like hours ago. Her bare feet aches and froze but she did not cease her exploration on the account of cold feet.
The double meaning in her own conscious brain made her laugh out loud.
Her trilling sound bounced off the gothic structure and she shivered inwardly, pulling the glittering scarlet scarf tighter around her petite fame. The thin nightgown hardly kept any part of her flesh warm but von Krolock's gift of the shawl would have to do. It was lovely in itself- fit for a queen.
An immortal Queen.
Sarah flittered with the word. It was handsome against her tongue. Queen.
Of course von Krolock himself was not a king by title, but he in his way was a king of this. Of immortality. King of all he owned. This land. Her blood. And soon, she would be his Queen of the Night, dancing with him, standing side by side as they doomed mortals to pay the price.
How dark and viscous her vision was!
But Sarah pinned for it. Longed for it. It was where she belonged. She was too beautiful for this life, too passionate. Too... too much for mortality.
She belonged here, beside her king.
"What is it that brings such an expression upon you features, my precious one?"
His voice soared down to her like an angel's feathers. Sharply, she pivoted on her bare heels and glanced up. In the darkness she could make out his features in the mysterious hazy red glow that surround them like a gypsy aura.
He stood on a looming staircase above her, the railing was snowflakes of ebony stone. His gaze was hauntingly wonderful, deep violet and bright. A striking contrast to the crimson air around them. Sarah's eyes glanced away from von Krolock a moment to admire the velvet red walls and the cathedral window behind him.
The moon was almost full.
It would be tomorrow night.
Tomorrow night
"Can you not guess my thoughts?" She whispered, knowing full well he could hear her. "Or can you not read them?"
He chuckled. "That, I am afraid, I am incapable of doing. My gifts are quite different."
Sarah didn't ask what he meant, frightened for some reason of the answer.
"Come down and walk with me. I am lonely," she moaned instead, fluttering her lashes at him.
The darkness soon uncovered him and in the red glow she could see him clearer now. He wore what one would wear to a dinner or a ball, not something one would wear to bed.
Sarah blushed at the image.
"What causes you to blush?" He wasn't quite near enough to touch her.Sarah eyed him. "Somethings are meant to be private."
"Tell me."
"No."
He smiled. She hadn't realized just how lovely he was. His snowy skin seemed almost to glimmer in the darkness and light of the moon. How his lashes were dark and thick around his violet irises like a mask. How dark and full his lips were.
"I met your son," she said as he fell into graceful step beside her.
"Ah." Von Krolock seemed hesitant. "Herbert was the son of my mortal wife nearly a century ago. When I was human. She died in childbirth."
Thousands of questions threaten to burst inside of her but she didn't want to ask anymore. Sarah wanted to love him now.
