Something felt off to him since you left. You seemed anxious and secretive, he didn't like it. He knew you were out getting yourself into some type of trouble. He took it upon himself to find you.
He knew how much you had been trying everyone to solve this upside down shit and this was his first guess. He just hoped his first guess was the correct one. Driving to the farm where the portal was, he saw your car in the field. He almost crashed his car with the speed he had pulled into the lot in. Jerking to a stop and jumping out. He heard your screaming and he grabbed his bat from his trunk. He threw himself right into the mouth of the upside down to save you.
He has to use his hearing to find you. Listening to your screams to find out which way to go in the dark of the upside down.
"Y/n! Where are you?!" He shouted, his bat raised and tight in his hands.
"Steve! Steve!" Was all you could get out.
He ran around the tunnels listening to your voice. He found you wrapped up in the arms of the upside down. Bashing the tentacles of it to break you free. You were thrashing yourself against its grip. He bashed at it until it let you free. When you were out you didn't look back, grabbing Steve and running back out. Following the trail that you had left for yourself and jumping out the hole before pulling Steve out behind you. Laying on your back and panting from the close encounter.
"Y/n, what the fuck?" He asked.
"I just—I just wanna help, Steve. You know that" you sighed, pushing your hair from your face while you sat up on your elbows.
"But stay smart about it if you need to, babe"
"I don't want to look helpless. I already don't fit in with your group and this is my chance to try and get in" she stood up, brushing off her knees.
"We all love you, y/n, what are—" he scrambled to get up and catch you before you left in your car. He heard your car start and placed his hands on the hood of your car so you couldn't leave.
"Steve, move!" You shouted.
"I'm not moving until you listen to me" he shook his head.
You moved the car into reverse and Steve panicked. He wanted you to stay and listen to him but you were hell bent on leaving.
"Will you listen to me dammit! I love you, y/n!" He exclaimed with his arms open wide "That's why I came here! That's why I saved you! That's why I'm lecturing you! This isn't any bullshit I'm pulling on you" he dropped his arms and head with relief of getting that off his chest.
You stopped the car and placed it in park. Resting your head on the steering wheel, trying to process all the information that just was revealed to you.
Steve saw you not moving, not reacting. He took that as you not wanting him the way he wanted you. You didn't love him the way he had just revealed he did to you. He shrugged it off and started off to his car himself. The one thing that stopped him was your voice cutting through the heavy silence and stalling car engines.
"I love you, too" you spoke quietly but it was a shout to Steve.
He turned around with a smile, "come back to my place? Get changed and we can watch movies, I want you by my side tonight and always"
"Yeah, I guess I can do that" you smirked with a side shoulder shrug to him.
