On a hot summer night, a young woman escapes from a youth correctional facility. For seventeen-year-old Addison Skye, home is a hard thing to define. It’s not the house where she lived with her Dad in Shining Armour, or the youth prison she stayed at, even if she lived there for the past two years.
When Addison runs into the nearby town Derby in search for a place to hide, she meets Xavier. Xavier’s the opposite of Addison—close with his family, and not ostracized by society or friends, just many of things Addison’s been missing for the past few years.
Sometimes the things in life don't come from taking the short way, and as the summer progresses, Addison finds herself becoming a part of Xavier's family, discovers love, and slowly learns a way to let go of the mistakes of her past, to move on with her future.
But as the past catches up with the present, Addison is unprepared for the consequences. In the end, what matters is finding the courage to face up to the secrets she has kept in her heart for so long, and learning to forgive herself.
