They Were Wrong

The party

Kara and I went out to eat so that we could be "fashionably late" that's what Kara says anyway. Sometimes I really don't understand but you gotta love her. She knows everything about everyone, she's one of the most popular girls at her school (my old school).
Kara - "Okay so I heard that Michael will be there."

Baby - " What does he have to do with anything??"

Kara - "what do you mean ?!? He has to do with everything. I also heard he's gonna be trying to look for you at midnight." She says as she nudges me and does this weird wonky face that I just didn't understand.

Baby - " I had a crush on him in the 8th grade and I really don't want to talk to him let alone kiss him and you know why."

Kara - " I know B, but can't you put that aside he told me he was sorry and people change."
I just roll my eyes and continue to stare out the window until I notice we had already arrived at the party. This place is huge. My stomach feels weird. I feel nauseous.
Baby - " I don't feel good I think I'll call my mom and just go home. You stay here and have fun." I smirk then turn around to start and call my mother.
Kara - " Come on." She says while pulling my arm towards the building. I just threw my head back like usual.
As we enter the 20 story building I notice that no one was here.
(At the front desk)
Kara - " Hello we are here for the Davis party."
(Front desk person= Kile)
Kile - "Last name please?"

Kara - "Anderson."

Kile - " Right this way ma'am." He guides us towards the elevator.
Kile - " You are going to want to go to the roof top floor. "

Kara - "Thank you very much Kile."
As we head up to the roof I just fidget with my fingers. Kara notices I'm nervous and just grabs my hands. Once I hear the ding of the elevator I notice we aren't even on the roof top yet. I slowly look up to see Michael enter the elevator with some girl. They were obviously doing something. I just look over at Kara then look back down at the ground. Michael just stands there silent while his girlfriend thing is all over him.
Michael - "Didn't think you were gonna show."

Baby - " obviously."
The rest of the ride up was silent. There were no more stops it was just a straight shot up. I hear the next ding which means we are at the top. The door opens and I just walk out still staring at the ground. My eyes were watering cause of what happened in the elevator with Michael. The only reason I'm upset is because i still liked him and I got my hopes up for nothing. Behind me I hear Kara yell my name but I keep walking. Then I hear her start to yell at Michael which made me smile a little.

First place I go is the drinks/food table and grab a beer and a little handful of chips. I'm scanning the place to try and find Kara but it's no use this place is packed. I cant find ANYONE I know like at all. I go find a seat at this little table by the ledge of the building. 20 stories isn't that high I personally like heights. I pull out my pack of cigarettes and take one out. I don't love smoking but it helps me cope with things. My mom still doesn't know which I'm happy about but one of these days she's gonna catch me.

" You know smoking is bad for your lungs."  I hear a deep voice from behind me. I didn't want to turn around so I just kept looking down the side of the building.

Baby - "Yea I know."

" so why are you doing it then?"

Baby - " I don't really know I guess." I shrug my shoulders and throw my cigarette of the side of the building. As I'm turning around I become speechless. My eyes are locked on his and they just won't budge.
(This is was he looks like at the party)

Kara - " Well hello." She waves to the boy in front of me which makes me break eye contact and look to the city view. " I've been looking everywhere for you Baby."

Baby - " Sorry I just wanted a break."

" I like that name." The boy gets up and walks into the crowd.
Kara rushes to the seat he was sitting in. She has the look on her face when she wants me to tell her everything that happened.

Baby - " Nothing happened. We talked for like two seconds and then I just stared at him until you came over. Thank god by the way because I just couldn't stop staring and it was getting awkward. But I wasn't the only one staring, he was too he coulda looked away any time."
She just looks at me with one eyebrow up.
Kara - " Your doing that thing."

Baby - "What thing? I don't have a thing."

Kara - "The thing when you think someone's cute. You totally think that guy is hot. Oh my god we have to find him. You have to talk to him. Like right now."

Baby - "Nnnnnnnnno" I start waving my hands making and X.

Kara - "Don't make me say your full name." She crosses her arms.

Baby - " You wouldn't." I start to lean forward towards her.

Kara - "Watch me. RHIANNON RA—" I smack my hand over her mouth so she'll shut up. We get the attention of a couple people.
Baby - " Everything is fine here folks... just get back to partyin."

Kara - " HA. Now go find him and talk to him."

Baby - " Ugh Fine. But let me do it alone I don't need you stalking me or over my shoulder."
Kara just puts her hands up and raises her eyebrows as I'm getting up to go "find" the boy. As I'm walking into the crowd I turn around to see that Kara has vanished. Thank god. I'm planning on leaving. My mom gave me enough money to get a taxi if need be. So that's what I'm gonna do I just need to get to the elevator and to do that I have to go through the dance floor. Kill me.
