My eyes slightly fluttered open, vision blurry at first. I was laying on a mat in a home with what I assumed to be bamboo walls. The stench of fish filled the air. My clothes were stripped from me, I only wore a cloth tied around my breasts and a loose skirt. What a strange outfit.
"Hello...?" I called out with a small, weak voice."
"Oh, good you're awake...You've been knocked out for days, I was beginning to get worried."
There she was, the one who saved my life. She was a bit of an older woman. She wore a beautiful red kimono with a gorgeous,
flower-shaped hair clip holding back her long hair.
The woman gave me a bowl rice and some chopsticks she had be preparing for herself. I could already tell she had a heart for others."Dōmo arigatōgozaimashita." I said. That means 'thank you very much' in Japanese. She actually didn't speak English, I'm just translating for you, assuming whoever reads this will be able to read English.
"You're welcome. My name is Chiyoko. I found you washed up on shore. I'll be back in a moment, allow me to go get some proper clothing for you." And with that, she stepped out of the room.
Chiyoko came back with a neatly folded kimono much like her own, only it was the color police strobe blue. It was covered in teal deigns along with tiny lavender flower patterns. I bowed and thanked her. Chiyoko directed me to her bathroom where she allowed me to dress and do my hair. I threw it in a bun on the top of my head and stuck a purple and white flower comb that she gave me into my hair. Not to brag about myself or anything but I believe I looked really pretty for a girl that just washed up on a beach.
"Chiyoko, I must repay you for saving my life. What do I give you in return?" I asked.
"Well young lady, my body is growing too old to be diving underwater, holding my breath until I can find a pearl. You see, these pearls are very valuable and are needed to be farmed."
"Pearl diving? Interesting task. When shall I begin?"
"In one week. Today I need you to rest up a bit more."
"Thank you, Chiyoko. Again, I'm ever so grateful for all that you've done for me."
The woman bowed in respect once more before heading off to her own room.
For the rest of the day, I kept still for the most part. I tried a few yoga poses to help relax my body more but it ended up hurting me in the end. No matter, I had the whole week to finish healing and to get to know the new town I'd temporarily live.
